Music is a passion of mine, always has been ever since I can remember! Classic rock, disco (YES I said disco), european house, blues, and Oh yea....bluegrass! I grew up with a brother 12 years older than me (waves at Greg! I love you!) He bought me my first 45, "She's a Woman" by the Beatles, I was 4 years old. We listened to The Beach Boys, Beatles, Jan and Dean, Everly Brothers, Hermans Hermits, Four Seasons, etc....early 60s on AM radio!
LOL...Yes there was life before FM radio........ Then the mid-sixties rolled around...the music got harder more expressive, The war in Viet Nam was consuming the nation. Young people didn't know what was happening to them, only that relatives, friends and nieghbors were going off to fight a senseless war, alot of them only to return in a box. The men and women who did make it back home were changed, different....... The music changed from love, happiness, surfing, and fun stuff ....to rebellion, fear, and trying to cope with what was happening in the world then...... Can you imagine being a teenager and made to go fight in a war that didn't make sense? Remember the word ...DRAFT?? Greg left in 1968 to join the Marine Corp...and then he went to Viet Nam.... I was 8 years old.....and didn't understand.... There was a program everynight on (AM) radio I listened to, people would dedicate songs to the men and women in Nam...lovers missin their lovers, wives missin their husbands, sisters missin brothers, and mothers missin their children....... Ever heard of a POW bracelet? Greg wore one up to a few years ago......
And then it happened! A new age of Rock and Roll...... The Doors, Rolling Stones, Steppenwolf, Greatfull Dead, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Crosby,Stillls,Nash, and Young, Country Joe and the Fish ........ Gimme a F...gimme an U, gimme a C LOL...better stop there! 1969 WOODSTOCK!!
