Alot has happened since my last transmission, and I guess that is to be expected. First things first, I still love it here. Even when the day gets long, I am still having a good time even if I am a little bit tired. The worst day here will probably be better than the best day at work somewhere else. The days are long and the amount to comprehend is also alot, BUT it is all worth it. I am learning alot of fascinating stuff and each day brings new challenges......which is partially why I got into flying in the first place. Everyone would do this if it was easy, so I feel lucky to be here and be in the position that I am in. Pilots are a fun group of people. Some are pricks, some are goofy, some are just plain normal, but be assured, everyone who is here, deserves to be. Well, on our first day, we had death-by-briefing, which wasn't too bad for me and a few other recent OTS grads (Everyday at OTS is death-by-briefing). We had the obligatory safety briefings, the this briefing and the that briefing. Blah Blah Blah, you could care less about that anyway. Then we headed over to AeroSpace Physiology for the next 2 weeks, where we learned about the effects of flight on the human body, how the body works, how altitude works, pressures, etc etc. All of it, not too tough, but you do have 2 tests while you are there and you cannot miss more than 3 questions on either test. I missed one on the first test and none on the 2nd, woo-frickin-hoo. Everyone did pretty well. While at Aerospace Phys, we parasailed, practiced PLF's, and went up in the altitude chamber. Fun stuff. Much more fun that Vigilant warrior or anything like that junk. Patooey! What else? Well, we started on Systems yesterday and let me tell you, I already know more than I did about ALL of the systems on a Piper. It is fairly in depth but not impossible to learn. I bought a hug white board for my office and spend many hours a night reading and writing out the diagrams to help myself remember. Our systems test is this friday, so this week should continue to be intense, I'm sure. We have also started CAI (Computer Aided Instruction) which is fun, yeah right. If you do the readings the night before and have good comprehension of the material, the computer part is just kind of a refresher and pretty easy. Either way, we are getting into it now! A quick note on study, so far it has been during the week = Game face ON, during the weekend = Party face ON. By the way, the weekends here are from Friday evening until Sunday around noon, then its hit the books running. The best part is that you are studying to become a pilot so it is kind of fun, or at least interesting. I like knowing what will kill me if I screw it up, heheheh. Study hard and you will do fine, stay focused and have a blast on the weekends. Oh, for you single guys, Del Rio has no women, bring your own, hehehe DOH! Last up, got the house and had the wife come down from school and help set it up. We got a 3 bedroom and have a guy from my unit who is also going through training with me, living with us. So I have an office all to myself and it is my study sanctuary. Its pretty cool having a house paid for by the gov't and all you have to do is mow the yard, Yeeehaw!
That's all for now, gotta go..........
