This is a picture of my 1988 Mustang GT. I probably took this picture around 1991. I won't show you what it looks like now. One visual change that I made was painting the letters on the lower panels to match the upper blue paint. You can't really see that in these pictures. The aftermarket didn't have the adhesive sets that you can buy now. I taped it all off and sprayed it. That was a major pain. I could have just painted it in with a brush but I wanted it to have a smooth "professional" look. In retrospect, I probably shouldn't have worried about it.
The other changes were the red pinstripping that you see here and removing the 5.0 emblems and putting on these running horses from a 1984 20th anniversary Mustang.
Exterior color: Bright Regatta Blue Metallic w/Titanium lower accent. 5.0L EFI High Output V-8. The older types would call the engine a 302. That works for me. Rated at 225 horsepower w/ 300 ft. lb. of torque it was awesome in its day. Nowadays 225 horsepower is chicken feed. Not in the Mustang though. Unless you want to cough up the big bucks for the Mustang Cobra you still aren't much better off, horsepower wise, than a car purchased ten years ago. But it is a snap to upgrade these cars with after market parts. Of course, I haven't done anything except remove the air intake silencer and put in a K&N Filtercharger. I have had ALL KIND of ideas over the years for modifications but because of money or good sense I haven't done any of them. Some day when this car is my second car I would like to at least replace the cheese grater tail lights and put in LX lights. Then get rid of those fake air scoops on the sides. Then put some lower gears in the rearend, and then paint the..........
SAD NEWS: On March 8, 2000 I put this car out of her misery. Mechanics informed me that she was suffering too much. She was one day shy of her 12th birthday.
HAPPIER NEWS: On March 8, 2000 I welcomed a 1998 Laser Red Mustang GT into my home. She came equiped with leather, cd player, etc.
Comparison of the '98 GT vs. the '88 GT
The '98 does not feel as fast. That could be a result of tighter handling. With the '88 it wasn't hard to feel that you were at the limits.
Brakes lock up waaaayyy too quickly. I've had two instances in one week where they locked up on me. This car doesn't have ABS.
Missing Low Fuel gauge. I thought it was unnecessary in the '88 but apparently I was wrong. It was a nice reminder.
I guess I still miss my old Stang. It had character.
