11/02/00 - Hey, if I don't update this page it's only
because nobody reads it. Because nobody knows about it. Oh well. The Peek-a-boo
record comes out in four days, GO BUY IT!! Soda Pop comp by the end of the year,
seriously. We recorded with Nick and Shawn in Houston, the results of which
we're gonna remix or somehow make more agressive...other than that, we've just
been playing out and things are normal. Hopefully there will be a shiny new
Soda Pop website up fairly soon, and this page will become some kinda museum.
La la la.
6/29/00 - OH! It's been another four months! I'm actually
updating this specifically because Shawn put links to this site on the Free
Radicals mp3.com page...I guess we'd better sign up for that too. Woozyhelmet
has been takin it easy, it would seem. The usual shows, not too many new songs.
OH! But we are on the soundtrack CD to Dean Hsieh's Westside comic book,
we finished the song "Time Pops" for the Peek-a-Boo compilation, which may or
may not come out before we all die, and the Soda Pop compilation should be out
within a month. Swear to god. It looks like it'll be us, Free Radicals, Groceries,
United Space, Matty and Mossy, Cue, Lucky Motors, and the Octopus Project. ALL
ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC!!!! So please write to us at woozyhelmet@yahoo.com,
and while you're at it, check out the newest woozyhelmet page, complete with
clip art, at geocities.com/woozyhelmet.
Ok. Laters.
2/5/2000 - AAAAHH! No update in six months! Here's what we've been up to: we're
on the brand new KVRX Local Live CD, Refurbished Robots, with a version of Whistle
Happy. It's really great to be in the company of all those other bands, on a
record that'll probably get played all over the country. Whether our track will
get played or not is beside the point. If you've picked up the CD, please write
us at woozybrandi@yahoo.com and let
us know what you think. In other compilation news, we're hard at work on a contribution
for the upcoming Peek-A-Boo "Cast A Spell" comp. The song has to be on the theme
of spells, a detail that is driving us crazy. But we'll get there. ALSO Soda
Pop Productions will be releasing an as-yet-untitled compilation with 8 or 9
Austin and Houston bands, probably in a month or so. Since the last update,
we've put out an EP, When The Soda Pop as Good, and we're about to put
out another, Songs about Rock and Roll. Available at 33 degrees and Sound
Exchange, or by emailing us. I guess those have been the big deals, other than
that we've just been playing out(not nearly enough) and working on our figures.
The show log is now online(see shows page, check
back for news on those comps. Hooray for woozyhelmet!
8/12/99 - Well, we did it. Sort of. Woozyhelmet's maiden voyage into the world
outside of Texas ended up as one show, in Athens, GA, but we got there, dammit,
and we rocked the place. It ended up being three days of promotion and just
enjoying the town, with our official Band Best Friend mj as our host/tour guide/road
manager. We got to do our first ever interview, at UGA's station WUOG! It's
a neat feeling, travelling as a band-entity. We went just about everywhere as
a gang, including the Flaming Lips/Cornelius/IQU show in Atlanta, and the whole
week ended up being a bonding experience. So, to sum up: We made many Athenian
friends, the CD is now available at Low Yo Yo, and they've got a copy at WUOG,
so anybody from Athens reading this should call 'em and request it. Next one-show
tour destination: Tokyo.
7/19/99 - Yippee!! We will be touring after all, as long as your definition
of "tour" is flexible enough to include just one show. We got through to Tasty
World in Athens, GA last week, finally, and we're booked on the 9th of August.
So since Thursday I've been trying to come up with a few more last-minute shows
between here and Athens. Kids have been cool so far, but nothing else is confirmed.
A one-show tour does seem a little ridiculous, I know, but we're a tough little
band, and if we have to reach America one city at a time then goddammit, that's
the way it's gonna happen. In other news, Jay is back from Mexico with his intestines
intact, Brandi has just returned from Yo Yo A Go Go, hopefully with her intestines
intact, and I'm about to head off for D.C., where I will surely lose my intestines.
Such is the woozysummer. ALMOST FORGOT - The CD is finally completed, artwork
and all, so you should be able to pick those up at shows, and from 33 Degrees
in a cute lil' homemade display box. It's called Zoom Welding, and features
13 hard rockin' tracks, most of which are actual songs. Plans for our next release
(a single for Pig Song?) are already brewing.
5/23/99 - Well, looks like the tour is put off...hopefully we'll try again in
August. The Miranda family van, which was to be our transportation, met an untimely
demise(or maybe it was timely, the thing was pretty well-used) in a wreck, fortunately
only minor injuries were sustained, but there is a new green Voyager in minivan
heaven now. But an August tour means we have two months to plan it right, and
we should have plenty of time what with it being summer and Jay and Brandi out
of school permanently. So we will be playing all the shows we can locally, (check
the schedule) and just livin' life. CD almost almost ready, we're just working
on the duplication now, and Brandi designed a new t-shirt, both of those items
will be available at shows. And because nobody but nobody ever reads this, the
news section is now subtitled "personal woozyhelmet diary." OH YEAH ALMOST FORGOT
EXCITING AND IMPORTANT- we will in most likely be on an upcoming Peek-a-Boo
comp!, to be released this fall, I think. This on top of somebody else's comp(whose
name I have forgotten) and the Soda Pop comp which proceeds at its own personal
pace. I guess it's been over two months since the last update, so I forget all
the important things that have happened to our little band. I promise to update
more frequently. And if you do happen to read this, drop me a line at beecaves@mail.utexas.edu.
Later.
3/7/99 - Oh my goodness, kids, check it out: yr. pals in woozyhelmet have decided
to take a crack at going on tour. Just the thought of it... Here are the basics:
the first two weeks of June, southeast U.S., playing with our pal Chris(aka
Adding Machines). If you live in a state including or below Kentucky and including
or to the right of Texas, write to us! We could really use some help with finding
places to play and to sleep, or we could just let you know when we'll be playing
in your area. In other news, the CD is rapidly nearing completion, us having
gotten off our fat rock-n-roll butts and given it the final push. So look for
it soon. And lastly but not leastly, I got to tell everybody that wasn't at
our Mar. 4 show at Puragtory that y'all are SUCKAZ 'cause we ROCKED OUT with
JAD FAIR. God's honest truth. And it was bad-ass. I don't mean to imply that
major underground rock figures make cameos at all our shows, but you really
shouldn't take chances, know what I'm sayin'? COME TO OUR SHOWS.
Thank you for your support!
