How to choose a stance

Regular stance skater doing a (very) long manual
1. Choose the stance that comes naturally to you. This should be a no brainer.
2. Regular stance: If you feel more comfortable with your left foot forward while pushing with your right foot, then you skate 'regular'. Your right foot goes on your tail.
3. Goofy stance: your right foot leads and you push off with your left foot then place it on the tail. I don't know why it's called 'goofy', but it's just a name and no one gets made fun of for doing it.
4. One thing to avoid is skating mongo, which is when you push with your front foot instead of your back foot. Skating mongo will make you get made fun of. I do it sometimes just because but you should know that it is bad technique with a lot of problems.
5. When you become a good skater, you'll start doing tricks in the opposite/unnatural stance. For example, if you skate goofy and you learn to do kickflips in the regular stance, that is called a 'switch' kickflip. Switch is performing a trick in your opposite stance.
