Owensboro KY Review

There were a few difficulties during the first few songs; John had to deal with feedback and an overzealous fan that tugged on his mike cord!  But after that, the show went off without a hitch - at least that I could see!

Bruce! The crowd was rowdy, by the middle of the show we were squashed up against the stage as the crowd surged forward.  John was big success - fans were vying for guitar picks and the chance to reach up and touch his hand or his guitar when he got close enough to the edge of the stage! I couldn't see Bruce very well - I was on the other side of the stage and the crowd was thick - but he sounded awesome!

UnionJan and TangerineLK were as good as their word, exchanging places with me so I could see Mr. Fitz pounding away on the drums at the back of the stage!  Brent is truly a talented drummer.  I've never seen anyone get as much sound out of a four piece kit! Brent!   The drums, under his sticks, are so responsive that the sound was astonishing.  He's a pleasure to watch (so much energy!) and to hear!  Best of all, he seemed to be having a great time - he was taking as many pictures of the crowd as we were of him!

But, I have to admit, time and time again my gaze was drawn to James. That man is just amazing!  I'm addicted to the bass.  My ear always follows the bass line, and being able to see James up on stage was one of the highlights of my weekend.  I've fallen head over heels in love with his Hamer 12 string! The Hamer! What a beautiful instrument! The sound, as James says, is so "big"!  I loved everything about it - the look, the sound and the way James can make it sing!  He makes every note look so effortless when I know for a fact that it's not! If I had one hundredth of his talent I'd be happy and grateful!

Every song Union played was met with roaring approval from the crowd - my personal favorite was Everything's Alright.  Although, I was surprised to find that while Love (I Don't Need It Anymore) was not one of my favorite songs on the CD, it was really great live.

After the Encore (Power to the Music), John ripped the set list from the floor and gave it to one of the guys up front, who somehow dropped it when he reached for a pick, so being quick witted, I snatched it!  But since Dana had the drumstick, I gave Rani the set list.  After the show, I suggested that the girls get their items autographed and they loved the idea!  So we went and stood in line and got the guys to autograph the girl's things.  And although I would love to get them for myself, I've got a feeling that neither girl is going to ever part with them!  Dana, especially, kept getting the drumstick out and reading the signatures. *snicker* Dana, John & Rani Figured seeing the band live would push them over the edge - now if I can ever get them to admit that it's okay to like the same kind of music as Mom!

We were lucky enough to spend some time with the guys that night and later the next day, something I don't think the girls will ever forget. (Monday night, at Rani's HS band banquet, she entertained about 6 of her friends with tales about her weekend adventures! *G*)

Many thanks to TangerineLK and UnionJan - Lori, Jan & Ken you guys were the best to hang with! And Brent, James, John and Bruce, thanks for a great first show!!
