Ancient is a black metal band with members from both Norway and America. I really like the vocals on this album. Kaiaphas does death, black and clean vocals throughout the entire album. The female vocals are pretty good too. The songwriting is a tad bit simple, sometimes utilizing two note phrases, but they make up for it with Aphazel's lead playing. This is one of the few black metal bands who's guitarist can solo well. The drums seem a little underdeveloped. The cymbals and snare are obscured as are the bass drums. The keyboards are pretty good and the cello is great. Black Funeral is a cover of a King Diamond song and it's pretty well done. The falsetto is pretty good but who could top King Diamond?
This album is definitely worth checking out.
