Imagine At the Gates, but faster, evil and lots of tremolo picked melodies. But even then, you can't really picture From the Depths. They are a very original band out of Ohio, USA. There's a lot of great riffs and melodies on this cd. I find it very satysfying to listen to. The vocals are pretty good, but they could be a bit louder and more pronounced. The bass (as usual with most death metal bands) doesn't really do anything that stands out. The guitars are the heart of the band, carrying the melody and riffing like crazy. The drums are pretty cool, they do some blastbeats and other cool shit. The keyboards give it an atmospheric dimension which is really cool. This is a really intense album, despite it's fifteen minute length.

Production rating 10/10 (Very surprising for and unknown band.)
Songwriting 11/10

Elysium

Rob Newlin - drums
Brian Bertram - guitar
Rob Molzan - vocals
Duane Morris - bass
Brian Boston - keyboards

This is the second release from this underground death metal band from Ohio. Stylistically, this album is much like the first one. The guitars still dominate with death metal riffage, the vocals are still harsh as ever, you get the picture. There are however, some tracks that stand out. Track 4, "Elysium", in particular stands out because of its excellent use of the violin within the melody.

Production rating 9/10
Songwriting 9/10
