Juliana Hatfield - Bed

Juliana Hatfield hasn’t released a new CD since may of ‘95 when she released Only Everything. She had just come off the medium between minor and mega success of Become What You Are from 1993, and because it was more popular than her first solo effort Hey Babe the record company wanted Only Everything to be a huge success... and according to Hatfield they didn’t appreciate or understand it enough to make it as big as it could be so when Juliana was under all this pressure and Only Everything practically bombed.. she took a break for awhile and sorted herself out and sometime in ‘96 she started recording God’s Foot and after all the changes she went though personally and creatively she was writing a lot more personal and for herself.. the songs weren’t forced.. she was able to write them the way she wanted without rushing it (I’m not entirely sure of what I’m saying.. but I think I’m right). Atlantic and Mammoth broke up... so that left Juliana’s record deal and new CD God’s Foot up in the air... so that CD has still yet to be released.. In 1997 she released an E.P. Please Do Not Disturb on Bar/None records.... and that set critics off in a big way.. Hatfield not only improved her songwriting but also improved her voice... she didn’t have the small tiny voice anymore... she learned how to open it up.. she truly has changed for the best. The CD Bed is packed with raw guitars and emotionally confessional lyrics and she sings about everything in everyone’s life that they could never say. This CD has a really honest feel to it cause it was only rehearsed a week before it was recorded.. I would advice anyone to buy it cause it is amazing and a lot better than a lot of the shit that is popular today... she deserves a hell of a lot more credit than she gets from the public.. but now that she is so much more confident with herself and older she probably doesn’t give a shit who gives her the time of day and who doesn’t...do yourself and her a favor.. but the CD!! Best Songs: Backseat, Bad Day, Down On Me, and Swan Song (in my opinion... and not in that order) By Rachel Judith 1
