INCUBUS - S.c.i.e.n.c.e. (Immortal/Epic)

Chemistry is fun, according to Incubus. Mix things in another, just as long as it will explode. Coooooool! Well, I didn't like this kind of scientific witchery that much, but I just can't get enough of Incubus' first CD, 'S.c.i.e.n.c.e.'. At their EP 'Enjoy Incubus' the combination of hardcore-crossover, sultry summer-evening funk and reggae was already rather risky, but the newest brew of this L.A.-quintet already explodes right in your face with opener 'Redefine'. How come? Because a few style-ingredients are added just for the fun and these style-ingredients mixed in the heavy grooves and the fat scratches are unexpectedly lightly inflammable. For example, who ever expected that rancid white eighties-disco would ever be adopted by a hip hardcore-band? The same band who thanks 'Sade' in its list of thanks and with 'Summer Romance' seems to give an ode (or is it a parody)? Besides this, we are boxed our ears with the necessary jungle, latin and hip hop. Singer Brandon Boyd, he seems to be a vocal contortionist, maneuvers through this particularly clever and he keeps it all together. There's only one conclusion: Incubus is heavy, super-surprising and creative and is ready to conquer the world. So, that's it.
