News from the horse's mouth (you know, that term is just WRONG...)
Julia has a new record deal with Atlantic Records, and is currently in the studio recording her next album! (With Larry Klein reprising his role as producer, as on Falling Forward.)
The album will hopefully be available world-wide in the latter quarter of 2001.
Wonderful news all around!!!
(older news...)
Julia now has mpeg3 audio files available at mp3.com.
It appears that East West will not be released in the U.K. :-(
My personal recommendation is to seek out the Japanese release of the album rather than the US release, as the extra track "Goodbye I Love You" (sung a cappella, with some choral backing at times) is one of my favourites!
* Japanese release only! VJCP-25304, 2548 yen (US$ ~22.50)
``The likely choice for a single is "East West" which will be sent to AAA radio formats in August. A 4-song CD EP for radio will probably be prepared with "East West," "Killing Me Slowly," "Stay," and "My Last Goodbye."''

``I think all Julia fans will be very pleased! Ten new songs, very acoustic guitar based -- I would say a nice mix of the lush sounds and songs of "Porcelain" and the drive and vocal stylings of "Falling Forward."
"I Want To Call You Baby" is on the album, although in rather different form that it appeared in "Just Passing Through."''

``Julia wrote some more songs, played them to the record company who said two of them just had to be on the album so she has to go into the studio again. But the delay has been due to waiting for the producer, Michael Brooke to be available.
``The album will be called east west. I have seen the album cover photos and they look gorgeous. A yellow theme. A guitar maker is busy making Julia a customised yellow guitar. A guitar case has already been sprayed yellow. She will be touring the USA and UK to promote the album and you will be the first to know exactly when and where.''

``Hooray! I've finished the record and I'm really pleased with it. It will be released from the U.S.A but probably not until next year.''

``Julia is back in LA. She's got American management now and it's all systems go. She's back in the studio with Michael Brook and they are aiming to get the album released in September. But I have to tell you that the dates get changed every five minutes so don't be surprised if album five isn't in your shops until next year. It will be released in the US first as it's thought the American market is more receptive to music like Julia's.''
``I keep singing one of her songs in particular. The chorus goes like this:
Now she's lying in my place,
With the right to kiss my favourite face.
Now she's curled up in my chair,
Your fingers in her hair
It's more than I can bear.I played it to Diane and she agreed it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Bit of a weepie though so buy a box of tissues.''

``I want to call you baby turned out particularly well in the studio and will definitely be a cut on album 5 which I still have no idea of a release date for. Basically one has to fall in with the label's scheduling plan. I'm returning to L.A. on Saturday to do the finishing touches and mixes to the album.
``Michael Brook has been a wondrous choice of producer and together we have embarked on a somewhat more live and raw feel. I used Jackson Browne's rhythm section, the keyboard player, PJ, from the Blue Nile and my own guitarist, Dave Clifton, from my live band. I'm thrilled with the results!
``Incidentally, Grant Mitchell, (the superb pianist and co-producer of the first 3 albums) is on his way here today and we are going to record a piano/voice piece for the forthcoming CD.''

``Yesterday afternoon I heard the rough mix (whatever that means) of the new album. I think it's fantastic. Really. I have absolutely no idea when it will be ready for release. Neither does Julia. She's recorded 12 songs and has to select ten for an album. The trouble is that all the powers that be can't agree on which ones it should be. I was deeply moved by them all and am glad I don't have to make the choice. I felt it was very percussive, melodic haunting, generally fab with a wonderful killer tear jerker with piano accompaniement. Another Tower Block if ever I heard one.''
