The bigger this tKoL thing gets, the more intimate it becomes. As we grow, as we mature, as we become more exposed, the Kingdom of Leisure becomes more family-like. The people closest to us become closer. We meet more wonderful people.
Jon Clough drove out from Denver with gifts and eager to do some tracks on the new record. We didn't ask him to do that, he made it happen and it was wonderful. The last time we interacted with Clough was prior to the Kingdom of Leisure ever playing a note. I feel like I know him much better and he sings on the next record.
Sarah painted my drums. This was something I mentioned in passing one day and she hunted me down, took my drums and made them the most beautiful instruments I've ever played or seen. I would've never have made that happen.
Elizabeth and Franklin (and Franklin's persistence) resulted in the most pleasurable show (NPR - Barnes & Noble Garden Party) we've played yet. We were not planning on playing until...October?! But, they allowed us to let loose.
Stephanie and Josh drove through and made a relentless work week a very festive affair. Their stories and their bamboo wind-chime gift will shape and appear on the next record. It was wonderful having them visit.
And, the Beggars Trail. What can I say...not only will we cover their song, "Tunneldump," on the next record, but we're slipping our re-mixed version of "Peace in the Valley" where we were their guests.
Christine and Anne. Bon. Our fans. Whatever.
It's all so cool. The ever-growing tKoL family is growing and thriving. We are the luckiest dumb-asses ever! Karma.
tKoL has changed music
