Who are these lawyers writing us? Where did they find out about us? Why do strangers write us offering us "services" and "affiliations" with their organizations? Why do people send us gifts? All we do is make music; really good music, tripgrass music. We've been in studio mode for most of the summer, you know, quote-unquote, underground. Why do we have 81,000 web hits? Why are we working on 5 simultaneous albums? Well, we asked for it. We'd hoped for few distractions, just tKoL music and quality time with the family. Put the package together, let it fly in the winter. But, we're as busy as ever and it's really interesting.
Well, after the lawyers come the label weasels. I'll make this public now, we're pretty damn happy with Powder Monkey Recording Company and the "majors" will have two real specific, but simple, characters to deal with when they come sniffin' our way. I think, generally, the "business" of music sucks. "Corporate" radio sucks. But, we will make someone a ton of money and that's what it's about in the industry. We've been very fortunate to have been as respected and admired in this "industry" and to have receive national airplay, but so what? That was easy. We did that with 12 shows and a piece of crap demo tape. What comes next? I want a nice studio. I want to play in stadiums. I want to tour again. I want a beach house.
Our music is not for sale, it could be for lease. We made it, we own it. tKoL is not for sale, but a business "partnership" with PMM/BFP is certainly viable avenue. Stop writing us, here's what we need: national distribution of the next record (we'll negotiate a 7-10 year lease) and support for a 30-show national college and club tour, and support for two musicians and two staffers. That is our starting point. Plus equipment augmentation. No bullshit, no hype, no charts, no image, no more photographs. We make incredible music, we make people happy. We are happy (sorry, we don't subscribe to that angry, destructive, rock star MTV stereotype). We already HAVE lawyers.
We have no idea what's happening...but it's really fun.
