Smell that? That's the cool, clear, clean continental arctic air coming down out of Canada. Unlike its moist, hazy tropical brother, the Autumn air means serious business. Time to prepare. Time to survive. The autumn air means tKoL.
The tKoL season is a funny thing. It begins annually on July 10 (the anniversary of the first time DJ Richie Scratchy and T.Y.Hardaway played together (it's even recorded)). The summer is not about shows or creating...it's about playing. Most people would call it rehearsing, but we just call it playing. It's raw, it's dirty, it's loud. Refinements do not come until fall.
The autumn is about creating. Our best work occurs in the fall, both conceptually and output. The senses are clearer and the world is calmer. The contrasts are high and greatly appreciated. We steamroll out of summer. Autumn is tKoL.
The winter is our concert season, can't tell you why, and we never sweat carrying gear. But, uh, we're always lugging shit around in rain and snow. Perhaps we never thought this through...
And Spring is about climax. We finish our shows, we max out our playing and we start to evolve. The playing changes and our "sound" changes. Then, we play THAT way all summer. Maybe it does work after all.
tKoL has changed music, real music - studyin' music.
