Phish and Dave Matthews (and sometimes JSBX and Flaming Lips)

I think the people that like DMB and Phish will really love what we do. I mean the people that REALLY understand what those bands are attempting, not those caught up in the hype. If people like jams, our complete improvisation and mix-as-we-go approach will really demand some attention and tweak some heads. I actually like Phish a lot and have a healthy respect for DMB, but this new record will blow their minds too. They obviously learned a lot from Zappa and Grateful Dead, but it lacks a little soul, a real bottom. Even though no one has joined to play bass for us yet, we have a real nice groove-bottom.

Now put DMB and Phish and Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and MMW and Flaming Lips and Zappa and Miles and John Prine and Jimi & Mitch on a bus. Now, blow up the bus. The Kingdom of Leisure is the bloody remains, the smoke, the twisted metal and the chaos that ensues.

We make music for people who really love music. I think artists as well as fans of the arts will really dig tripgrass. It's a brand new sound (which I feel pretty silly even writing, but it's fresh). We have no idea what is happening, it just happens.

We are really underground. We are really changing things. That's a good feeling. Satisfying.
