Mark Chadwick

Mark started to play the guitar at the age of thirteen, after seeing Pete Townshend on TV and thinking to himself that he could do that. His dad, being in a military band, brought him home an amp-less electric guitar to play, and once a month he woul take it back to be re-tumed. The first band that he was in was called the SoupDragons, with Steven Boakes on Bass (who later became the Didge player for the Levs.

Mark believes that the Levellers have'nt really changed, either musically or personally, though I would probably disagree with that.

!!!Classic comment!!! - (From OTF 8)
This album [Zeitgeist] is live sounding and as live as it's going to get. (Mark speaking 9 months before the release of the Levellers 'Best Live' compilation!!!

Simon Friend

Simon got involved with the band though the help of two friends - Baggage and Grufta. He jumped at the chance of being able to join after Alan (Miles) departed. His first musical instrument was the Trumpet, which he learnt at school. He then moved onto the classical guitar, and finally the electric guitar, causing the school which he attended to build him and his band a soundproofed room!!

He states that his favorite instrument is the guitar, but that he will try his hand at anything.

Jonathon Sevink

Jon started to play the violin at School, having lessons every week. He gave it up when he was sixteen, and didn't touch it for another seven years. He was pressured into re-starting by Mark, who was going out with his sister at the time. It was in fact Jeremy who was keen to have a violinist as a full time member of the band. He is proud of the fact that he can use his violin to give a huge range of sounds. Coupled to an effects pocessor, he has given us; Distortions Violin,Wah-wah violin, and in fact everything that a guitar can do. He is also the only member of the Levellers who is taller than me!

Jeremy James Cunningham

In 1978, Jeremy saw a career opportunities video made by the Clash!! he took one look at it, and decided that that's what he wanted to do. Having no money for a Bass, he re-tuned an accoustic guitar belonging to his younger sister, jamming it up against the sink in his toilet as an amplifier. Jeremy is quite involved in song writing (he wrote Hope St and haven't made it), but has yet to make his vocal debut, preferring to stick to 'shouty' parts such as in Sell Out and World Freak Show. The best description of him that I have ever heard is that he is an: 'Affable, Raggle-Taggle-Fraggle-Rockster. He is certainly a VERY down to earth nice guy. He is also highly reclusive, often retiring to the tour bus just a few minutes after a gig, which is a shame.

Charles Kenton(no, really!) Heather

Like all of the other Levellers. Charlie started playing in bands at school. His first serious band was with Jeremy, called The Fence. They released one single, called Frozen Wate/Exit, which I own.
He has a very good relationship with Jeremy, which he thinks is the reason for the way that the Rhythm section of the Levellers gels. He moved to Brighton, after getting into a Catch 22 situation in London. He thought he would only be there for two or three years. Eleven years on he is still there.
