Barry Alan Crompton Gibb, born September1, 1946, older brother to Maurice and Robin, irresistible force behind the Bee Gees. Barry is the foundation, the guiding light, the stability, the guardian angel, the common bond that holds the Bee Gees together. Barry is the soft spoken and subduded brother, always beaming with love and admiration at Robin and Maurice, in spite of their silly antics. He has an eternal smile that can drop one to his knees and eyes that can sparkle and dance in the spotlights, reflecting a gentleness from within.
Barry is often the brother that takes the lead in an interview. He has a child-like giggle that so many times follows his statements, along with that certain sense of deep thought and genuine interest in the subject matter and in the interviewer.
Barry is a gifted musician, singer and songwriter. He, along with Maurice and Robin, has co-written most of the material that has been released by the Bee Gees, as well as material for numerous other artists.
Barry effectively uses three different voices to hold and captivate his listeners. The spine-chilling BREATHY Barry voice is surely the voice of an angel and can trigger such emotional intensity, his pristine falsetto is pure and fascinating. But, the strong NATURAL Barry voice will mezmerize the listener and touch his very soul. The magic VOICES of Barry will never be duplicated.
The passage of time has mellowed Barry to perfection. He has never sounded better and has never been more handsome then he is today.
The sound of the Bee Gees is truly a celebration of music that has touched so many. The music has been such an inspiration to us all, has followed us and been our friend through all stages of our lives. The Bee Gees have been there to celebrate our joys and to comfort us in our sorrow. For this, I offer my eternal gratitude.
