Films I have seen of late

9/1/01
goddamn, it's been a long time since I added anything!
Dancer in the Dark - dir: Lars Von Trier
See this film. See it now. I'm not kidding. You won't regret it.
Superb camera work, some interesting effects/film stock etc.
Very interesting story-line and it brought such emotions out that I didn't know what to do with myself!!
Won many awards at Cannes and the like.
Starring: Bjork, Catherine Deneuve
* * * * * - 5 stars and more!!

Looking for Alibrandi (Australian)
Unless you grew up in Australia and studied English you might not have even heard of this book come film.
Not telling what it's about, but the film adaption of the book I read all those years ago was very very amusing.
I suggest if you want something light-hearted and a bit sad, get this one out on video!
Starring: Pia Miranda as Josie

Girl, interrupted (U S of A)
Finally managed to see this film and thoroughly enjoyed it I must say.
Starring: Winona Ryder & Angelina Jolie

The Dish (Australian)
Now I thought that it was okay, however I liked the castle a lot more, I guess cause it was more humorous or something.
You'd have to judge for yourself. Might mean more to people my parents age.

The Ninth Gate
Didn't mind this film, except for the last ten minutes or so. I guess it was a bit soft. But it had johnny depp so what can i say?!

Now I must comment on this film Evil Dead that I went to watch the other night. I've never been a huge fan of horror movies, but I easily got through classics like Prom Night, Friday the 13th etc. and of course more recently Scream, but this one I found totally vile. Especially the plant in the forest scene (if you've seen it you know what I'm on about). It was so cliche and sick it was driving me crazy. Didn't even watch the whole film!! I watched it cause i got told it was a comedy.... but the cliches, the sound of the evil dead screaming for about 10 minutes (come on, i do want my eardrums at the end of it) made me turn it off. So i wont be watching any other evil dead movies in a hurry.

Mad Max. (Australian) I'd never seen it before and wasn't really taking in the story. None the less one of the better early australian feature films. Watched Beyond Thunderdome (the third MM movie) last night and that was good too).

Haven't been to the cinema recently but might go today. Wouldn't mind seeing Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels as i have heard many good reports. Ciao for now.

Starship Troopers - for the second time
Definately better at the cinema.

Grease - for the 12th thousanth time
Definately great at the cinema!

Billy Madison - watched this twice in two days
If you like films that take the piss, this one is for you!

Titanic - yes I finally saw it.
And I must say, I was disappointed. Sure I weeped a bit at the story...
But I didn't think the special effects were that good... at least on video. Didn't see it on the big screen.
Did it really deserve 12 awards?
