CONCERTS:
1999 was another active year for The Crowd. Their first show of the year took place March 5th at Club Mesa in Costa Mesa (with Electric Frankenstein and The Pushers.) With Jeff Kaa on guitar and Boze on bass, the band showcased some of their new material (including Can Pipe and Sugar Smack, both of which may appear on the next Crowd release.)
The Crowd also shared the stage with X, the Weirdos and Back Flag at the 1st Annual Punk Rock Hall of Fame Show in Santa Monica on June 5. Playing second (after Rik L Rik) they set the tone for a memorable evening.
Other summer gigs included
- the Pennywise record release party at the Key Club in Hollywood (6/8)
- an appearence with TSOL and the Adolescents,
- a free show at Taxi's on Main St in Huntington Beach (two long sets.)
- Saturday August 21: Doll Hut 10 Year Anniversary party with the Pushers, the Co-Dependents, and Dumbfounded (featuring Frank Agnew Jr. on Guitar).
- Sunday August 29, at the Whiskey, Some film Documentary filming with Dr. Know, Penis Flytrap, Tongue, and the Stains.
- Saturday September 4 (Labor Day Weekend), at Club Mesa with El Centro, Welt , and Four Bolt Main (with Spencer from Shattered Faith).
THE LATEST: FROM JIM KAA
We just played 3 good shows, one at the Thirteenth Floor (7.24.99) in Sunset Beach with the Pushers and the Decline, and the newest Hostage act Travolta. We had New Wave couples dancing, tell me a what band could pull that off! Then we played the Doll Hut (7.31.99), blew my amp at practice, so I borrowed Boz's, and blew his on the third song ( Letter Bomb) at the Doll Hut. Luckily we borrowed another, and rocked the
house with a drunken Duane Peters on backing vocals on many songs. Living in Madrid featured both Duane and Mike Lohrman (Stitches) with Jim D. on vocals.
But the killer was a birthday party Luau for Jim's friend Tino on 8.7.99. Playing in an apartment complex in downtown HB, we rocked to 200 plus Hawaiian shirt & bikini wearin' party goers. Young Natalie Kaa saw her first real Crowd gig seeing the final song of our set, it was a garage version of Stepping Stone that we played because we were out of songs.
Duane Peters has approached us about doing a full length CD for his label next year. He merged his label Disaster with two other labels, Bomp and Alive Records. We are hoping to spend the fall and early winter writing songs and playing some shows
to break them in, them record in March for a summer release. I hope it comes to fruition, keep you fingers crossed.
(Note - Jim will also being playing some shows with The Bleeders in the fall.)
