CAROLINE ATTARD / CAROLYN BOWN info

Caroline Attard (vocals)

Very nice and fine vocalist. She started her career in a duo called The Other Two:

Caroline Attard (vocals)
Jemima Smith (vocals)
After a couple of singles, they went on tour with some great bands and soloists, during the 60s. In 1964, they were in the same bill as Chuck Berry and The Nashville Teens (more details about it in my pages about John Hawken). The Nashville Teens backed them during the tour, although there were other bands that played with them during that time (Downliners Sect, for example).

After 5 years, they split in 1969. Then, Caroline moved to a new band that was being formed, Storyteller:

Caroline Attard (vocals)
Terry Durham (vocals)
Roger Moon (guitar, vocals)
Mike Rogers (guitar, vocals)
Andy Bown was friends with them, so he used to play bass with the band when he had some spare time (he was in The Herd). Some time later, they get a permanent bassist:
Caroline Attard (vocals)
Terry Durham (vocals)
Roger Moon (guitar, vocals)
Mike Rogers (guitar, vocals)
Rod Clark (bass)
Their first album was produced by Andy Bown and Peter Frampton. This album has been reissued on CD, with 6 bonus tracks (they're really taken from their 2nd album).

After the album, Rod Clark leaves, being substituted by Chris Belshaw:

Caroline Attard (vocals)
Terry Durham (vocals)
Roger Moon (guitar, vocals)
Mike Rogers (guitar, vocals)
Chris Belshaw (bass, vocals)
Their 2nd album was produced by Andy Bown alone. It contains the contribution of Henry Spinetti on drums, and Harold Beckett on trumpet and flugelhorn.

But the band finally parted ways in 1971. At that time, Caroline married to Andy Bown, and she became Carolyn Bown.

In February 1972, she is part of an augmented live lineup for Elton John:

Elton John (vocals, keyboards)
Davey Johnstone (guitar)
Dee Murray (bass)
Nigel Olsson (drums)
+
Alan Parker (guitar)
Lesley Duncan (vocals)
Madeline Bell (vocals)
Caroline Attard (vocals)
+
Royal Philharmonic Orchestra
After that, she still sang in some albums (the ones I've been able to trace are the ones by her husband), until she became a mother, when she retired from music.

But this story has a very sad end. In 1991, Andy Bown left Status Quo. At first, the reasons weren't made public, but sometime later, it was known that Andy left the band to take care of his wife, who was severely ill with cancer. This was Carolyn. Finally, Carolyn died on July 4th, 2001. Rest in peace.
