PETE BLANNIN info

Pete Blannin (bass)

Veteran bass player, I've been able to trace appearances by him in albums from 1951!

In 1951, he appears in an album by Victor Feldman, Shaw 'nuff / Blue room.

In March 1955, we can find him playing in Tubby Hayes & His Orchestra:

A slight change in the band in April 1955: They also added Bobbie Breen as vocalist and percusionist: Sometime later, Dave Usden and Lennie Breslow left: The band is shortened to Tubby Hayes Quartet in July 1955: The album The swinging giant, volume 1 includes track from several of the above lineups.

With Tubby Hayes, Pete also backed other jazz musicians, such as Dizzy Reece.

There's a collective live album called British Modern Jazz Scene 1956, recorded live in February 1956 by Tubby Hayes & His Orchestra (7 tracks), Vic Ash Quartet (4 tracks) and New Jazz Group (4 tracks). The featured lineup is the one with Ian Hamer.

Pete left Tubby band in October 1956, joining Victor Feldman Quartet. This was their personnel in December 1956:

They recorded some tracks for the album Victor Feldman in London, volume 1.

He was also a member of Vic Lewis Orchestra, but I haven't been able to find proper info about his stay.

In October 1958, this is The Jazz Committee:

In June 1960, he's part of Humphrey Lyttelton Octet: They released the album Humph plays standards.

Ian, Blannin and Eddie Taylor would play together again some years later, as we're going to read.

In December 1964, this is the lineup for Long John Baldry's band, Hoochie Coochie Men:

They lasted until July 1965, when Long John Baldry dissolved them, to form The Steampacket (with Micky Waller).

In 1992, he's part of Laurie Jacobs Quintet:

In 1999, he's a member of Rod Hamer Band: Pete is still very active in the jazz scene in Hertfordshire. He can be seen playing with several different bands, such as Herts Jazz Six, The Blue Note Band or the Russell Williams Quartet. These are the usual lineups:

Herts Jazz Six lineup in 2003:

Russell Williams Quartet lineup in 2003: The Blue Note Band lineup: West Coast Jazz lineup from 2001-2003:
