JESS COX info

Jess Cox (vocals)

He was the original singer in one of the best bands from the New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement: Tygers of Pan Tang. They were from the Manchester scene, and they took their name from a Michael Moorcock novel.

Jess Cox (vocals)
Robb Weir (guitar, vocals)
Rocky (bass, vocals)
Brian Dick (drums)
Their first material was a single with 3 songs on the Neat label.

After their first album, Wild cat, they augment the lineup with a fantastic addition, guitar virtuoso John Sykes (still using the name John James Sykes).

Jess Cox (vocals)
Robb Weir (guitar, vocals)
John Sykes (guitar)
Rocky (bass, vocals)
Brian Dick (drums)
This lineup plays at Reading Festival in 1980. But soon in November 1980, Jess leaves them to form Lionheart with Dennis Stratton (from Iron Maiden): But, after their first gig at The Marquee, Jess Cox leaves in January 1981.

After Lionheart, Jess Cox released a solo album on Neat Records, but I can't find any info about the musicians involved (never saw the album myself). He also formed his own Jess Cox Band, with some musicians such as Mick Proctor (guitar), Neil Shepherd (guitar), Dave Donaldson (bass),

Years later, in 1986, another album from Tygers of Pan Tang has been released. It's called First kill, comprising unreleased material from their early times, with the original lineup (thus featuring Jess Cox).

In 1986, Jess Cox and Robb Weir tried to reform the old band, under a slightly different name, Tyger Tyger:

Jess Cox (vocals)
Robb Weir (guitar, vocals)
Brian Emerson (bass)
Roland (drums)
But I don't know how much time they stayed together.
