BILLY KRISTIAN info

Billy Kristian (bass)

Great bassist, he comes from New Zealand, where he played in several not-known bands.

In 1970, he joined Headband:

Tommy Adderley (vocals)
Alan Quinell (guitar)
Ronnie Craig (guitar)
Billy Kristian (bass)
Dick Hopp (flute, violin)
Jim Cuomo (sax)
Jimmy Hill (drums)
They released an album in 1972, Happen out, but I don't know if Billy is featured there, as I don't have it. They split in 1973.

Around 1977 or so, he becomes a member of impressive band Ian Carr's Nucleus:

Ian Carr (trumpet, horns)
Billy Kristian (bass)
Geoff Castle (keyboards)
Brian Smith (sax, flute, clarinet)
Roger Sellers (drums)
They released two albums with this lineup, In flagranti delicto (recorded in February 1977) and Out of the long dark (recorded in November 1978).

Meanwhile, he also found time to join Pacific Eardrum:

Joy Yates (vocals)
Isaac Guillory (guitar)
Billy Kristian (bass)
Dave MacRae (keyboards)
Brian Smith (sax, flute, clarinet)
Jim Cuomo (sax)
Jeff Seopardie (drums)
They released two albums: Pacific Eardrum in 1997 (with help from Morris Pert on percussion) and Beyond panic in 1978 (with Simon Norton on percussion).

He was a founder member of the band Night, in November 1978:

Chris Thompson (vocals)
Stevie Lange (vocals)
Robbie McIntosh (guitar, vocals)
Billy Kristian (bass)
Nicky Hopkins (keyboards)
Pete Baron (drums)
They released an eponymous album. In November 1979, they change the lineup:
Chris Thompson (vocals)
Stevie Lange (vocals)
Robbie McIntosh (guitar, vocals)
Billy Kristian (bass)
Bobby Wright (keyboards)
Bobby Guidotti (drums)
A 2nd album was released, Long distance. They split due to lack of success in December 1980, when Chris Thompson started his new venture, Chris Thompson & The Islands.

Then, he joined Strange Fruit, with several bandmates from Nucleus:

Ed Speight (guitar)
Billy Kristian (bass)
Geoff Castle (keyboards)
Brian Smith (sax)
Roger Sellers (drums)
Many years later, in 1990, Chris Thompson and Billy Kristian played together again, in the band playing in the closing ceremony for the Commonwealth Games, having released a song together, 'This is the moment'.
