MIKE PAICE info
Mike Paice
(sax, harmonica)
Veteran sax and harmonica player.
Around 1974, he was a member of the band Phoenix:
They soon replaced their bassist:
Roy St. John (vocals)
Adrian Pietryga (guitar)
Chris Birkin (bass)
Mike Paice (sax, harmonica)
Steve Waters (clarinet)
Louis La Rose (drums)
But after a couple of singles, the band split. Roy
St. John recorded a solo album (where Mike Paice also contributes, see
below).
Mike Paice was one of the founders of Welsh band
Red Beans and Rice. One of the multiple lineups was:
Laverne Brown (vocals)
Geoff Coleman (guitar)
Benny Herbert (bass)
Mike Paice (sax, harmonica)
Tom ? (drums)
After some time, they relocated in London, and that's
when Steve York and Dino Coccia joined:
Lynn ? (vocals)
Jeff ? (guitar)
Steve
York (bass)
Gary
Moberley (keyboards)
Mike Paice (sax, harmonica)
Dino Coccia (drums)
Steve York played with them approximately around 1980.
Around 1981 or so, Mike Paice joins Jools Holland's
band, called The Millionaires:
Jools Holland (vocals,
keyboards)
Pino Palladino (bass)
Mike Paice (sax, harmonica)
Martin T. Deegan (drums)
The band split in 1983, with only one album released,
Jools Holland & The Millionaires, recorded with help
from great Tim Renwick on guitar.
Another band where Mike Paice has played was Smokestack
Lightning:
Tim Brown (vocals, guitar)
Tony Skinner (vocals, guitar)
Adrian Wallis (bass)
Mike Paice (sax, harmonica)
Andrew Kelly (drums)
He has been a member of Dana Gillespie Band during
the last years. This was the lineup in 1999:
Dana Gillespie (vocals)
Mike Schofield (guitar)
Carl Standbridge (bass)
Dino Baptiste (keyboards)
Mike Paice (sax, harmonica)
Martin Wining (sax)
Evan Jenkins (drums)
But later in 1999, the bassist slot was filled by
Javier Garcia:
Dana Gillespie (vocals)
Mike Schofield (guitar)
Javier Garcia (bass)
Dino Baptiste (keyboards)
Mike Paice (sax, harmonica)
Martin Wining (sax)
Evan Jenkins (drums)
This lineup still remained with Dana in May 2000,
releasing the album Experiences.
