- The name Samantha is of Hebrew origin and is said to mean "Listener" or "Told by God."

- We chose Samantha as a send-up to Samantha Stevens, the main character in one of Chris' favorite TV shows, Bewitched.  (It was also the name of Mulder's sister on The X-Files, Jen's favorite show.)

- The nickname Sammie is loosely derived from long-baller Sammy Sosa.

- The middle name Lillian is of Greek origin and is simply said to mean "Lily."  We chose it as a tribute to Chris' grandmother.

- Sammie's Western astrological sign is Capricorn.  According to Chinese astrology, she was born in the year of the Dog.

- Wood's due date was July 25th.

- The name Woodrow is of English origin and is said to mean "From the lane in the woods."

- We chose the name Woodrow for several reasons.  Jen's brother (the kids' Uncle Jim) was given the nickname "Woody" in ROTC in high school and the name stuck.  (He now has it tattooed onto his forearm.)  Woodrow is also the birth name of Chris' maternal grandfather and uncle.  Finally, Woody is, of course, the name of the cowboy in one of Xander's favorite movies, Toy Story.

- The middle name Cy is derived from Major League Baseball Hall of Fame pitcher Cy Young, whose real name was Denton but who was nicknamed "Cyclone" during minor league tryouts.

- Wood's Western astrological sign is Cancer.  According to Chinese astrology, he was born in the year of the Rat.
