“Everyone thinks we’re Mormons or a Christian band,” quips Mary’s Mouth
vocalist Kendra Miller. “And I’ve heard a few Hanson comparisons.” But
Hanson and the Partridge Family they are not. Mary’s Mouth is a four-piece
hard-rock band comprised of siblings from Belle River, Louisiana. Winners of
Jaded Productions’ 2001 Battle of the Bands, their heavy/ethereal dynamic
and heart-felt, intelligent lyrics bring to mind Tool and A Perfect Circle,
two of their biggest influences along with Mr. Bungle, Faith No More, and
Fantomas. Big brother Zach (guitars) got his younger twin sisters Kendra and
Lisa (bass) interested in forming a band back in 1996; Lacy joined them on
drums seven months ago, and they became Mary’s Mouth.
“Our music is more of an inside thing,” explains Zach. “It’s not so much
what you see (onstage), but what you hear and what you feel.” This sole
concern with musical content is so often lost on the image-conscious music
scene of today, but not on Mary’s Mouth. They have toured with bands such as
Deadboy and the Elephantmen, Nine’s Coldest, and Mindbent, and they will
play with Fallen and Wigginhorn in the near future. They are also recording
and writing new songs for possible MP3s and a forthcoming CD.
