I stated on the "me" page that music takes up most of my life. As a music theory major, I'm expected to take two independent study classes in theory or composition for the last two years of my degree. So I have been composing, and I enjoy the challenge, but I can't see myself doing it for the rest of my life. Fortunately, I also play the trumpet, which I find very fun, and want to get better at it. Of course, I've been taking lessons since I got to Furman with the best teacher ever. I also play the piano, and also take lessons for that. Add all this with some other music classes, and 5 or 6 musical ensembles, and no, there's not time for much else. :)

I do enjoy listening to music, as well, though, and I like to think that I have a wide spectrum of knowledge. I love the entire realm of "classical" music, Palestrina, Gabrieli, Bach, Beethoven, Mahler, Stravinsky, Ives, Schubert, Schumann, Bozza, Ravel, Ligeti, Crumb, and many more. I love jazz. I love playing in the big band at Furman, as well as a totally sweet combo. Clifford Brown, John Coltrane, Thelonius Monk, Miles Davis, Thad Jones, Maria Schneider, Wayne Shorter, Bill Evans, Brad Mehldau, Mingus, Ellington, Gil Evans... I could go on all day. I also have a passion for great classic rock like Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, the Beatles, Eric Clapton, Steely Dan, the Allman Brothers Band, Chicago, Blood, Sweat, and Tears, Bob Dylan, Queen, and so many more. I also can get into some newer music by cool bands like Of Montreal, the Decemberists, Death Cab, the Postal Service, the Shins, Doves, Interpol, Iron & Wine, and Neutral Milk Hotel.
