Coney
Dog
I was walking down the
street today
Met some old friends
and kept on walking
Talking about the night
before and the drive into the city
I was seeking some excitement
there
My town, your town ain’t
very pretty
Caught a late movie,
Some Coney dogs and laughed
about the story
Somber, sullen, seeking
answers
Broken promises, mental
cancer
Silent sleeping, walking
dreaming
Talk about it when all
is done
I was only 12 years old
when I discovered my family gifted
I only knew just what
they know
Today I am sorry they
did not grow
Wisdom and courage at
the bottom of a bottle
Tip back and you will
find you're strong and wise beyond recognition
When the bottle is empty
and dry so are you
Looking back on yesterday
I find myself no longer
the same
Growth and change and
risks rewarded
Stagnant are the Lonely
Childhood dreams must
be received
Accepted are the winners
Paradoxically revealed
Strength through vulnerability
Forgotten pain in a swollen
brain
Distorted childhood never
ending
Beat me, beat you, the
memory never ending
“Hey, this movie really
sucks. Its too depressing.
Lets go out and get some
Coney dogs.”
“Yeah, what is the problem
with these people?
They're a mess. Just
get over it.”
“I'll buy the first pitcher.”
