The
Continuing Adventures of Zach and O.D.
(AKA
Life’s a Beach)
Gazing down at the World
from on top of the high-rise
Looking through his glassy
eyes at the mall
Wishful thinking and
heavy drinking as he watches the world go by
The telephone rings he
answers the thing with a dead sounding cheerless hello
“Zach” the telephone says
from a faceless distant voice
“I’m down at the beach.
You wanna come too?
I’m bored and need something
to do.”
So Zach belches out loud
and says “I’ll be there soon.”
As he stands up and falls
flat on his face
Zach passes out and there
was no doubt that “soon” would not be
The phone rings again,
it’s quarter past ten
And Zach snores a little
too loud
The machine picks up
the message and falls upon dying deaf ears
“Zach, I shaved my head
and I wanna be dead.
Can’tcha hear me I’m
reaching out?
I cut a little too close,
I smoked too much dope
I’m moving to slow and
I think my mommy’s calling me now
The sirens ring out in
the dead of night
And driven out to another
close call
“Zach, you’re my only
last chance, I’m going insane
The voices I hear very
loud.”
I’m calling you now and
I know that somehow
You’ll help me out of
this gloom
Zach, listen to me, it’s
your good friend O.D.
Please come out to my
rescue
Oh my god do you hear?
The angels have arrived
They’ve come to take
me away
Zach buddy, I’m scared,
I’m in a white room
Padded so softly inside
The tides rising high,
let’s build a castle outside
And take a walk on the
beach in midday
The colors are very strange,
The sand is all bad
And my swimsuit has my
arms tied in back
