We ended up getting there about 8:20, by the time we parked and power-walked a MILE to the actual PLACE, it was 8:30. As we got closer, we could hear TORI!! She was playing "Past the Mission." I was so sad that we missed that song. It makes me cry. It moves me. (Yes, I'm a big girlie girl. Just can't help myself.) As Kristi and I were walking to our seats (Cystal's health made her have to walk slower, so she told us to go on ahead), Tori was playing "Crucify" which is *always* a great song! Apparently we missed 3 songs. (I'm telling myself we didn't miss "Past the Mission" since we got to hear some of it, plus, I'm convincing myself cuz I want to have missed less. Let me live in my delusion, ok?)
I went to the Dent (any toriphile should already have this bookmarked, but it's http://www.tori.by.net/) and someone listed the setlist:
Here is the setlist in exact order, my comments in parenthesis:
God (I'm ok with missing this one, I guess)
Sugar (I don't know this one)
Juarez (This is off her soon-to-be-released "To Venus and Back")
Past the Mission (Heard it on the way in.)
Crucify (Wonderful of course!)
Bliss (Also off the soon-to-be-released "Venus." Rockin' song! I love
it!)
:::Exit Band. Tori played solo::: (AKA Secret Time)
Putting the Damage On (Can it get more beautiful than this?!)
Never Seen Blue (Don't know this song...)
:::Band's back:::
Concertina (Another off "Venus." Kinda upbeat. It was ok, but not the Tori-style I'm used to.)
Hotel (The only one from "choirgirl" which is too bad because I love so many off of that CD. But Tori said the older girls were wanting a kick w/the band, so she let them have it.)
Professional Widow (This song kicked so much booty!!! VERY strong!)
The Waitress (Extra long version. ALWAYS great live!)
:::Encore:::
Precious Things (AWESOME!!!)
I really wish she would've played "Case of You" or "Take to the Sky" but I'm not complaining!
Also from the Dent, someone said "Tori played from approx. 8:15 - 9:28 pm" so we didn't miss too much of her, thankfully! I just want to know now when the opening band started! I actually would've liked to have seen them. Don't know who it was supposed to be, but I love music, so I'm sure I would've enjoyed it.
During intermission, I went and bought stuff. I got the last keychain in the whole place! First place we went sold it's last one. (there were 3 places to buy stuff) Went to the next one. They were already out. Went to the next one, they were out too! Well, as we walked away from the last place, they started yelling "Ma'am!" at me. They'd found one on the floor!! YAY!! Look at the Vikster bein' all happy! The keychain (and the necklace I got, which is pretty much like the keychain, but a lil' smaller) says "Venus Envy" on the front and "torbiting 1999" on the back. Looks like a planet. Very cool.
I had to sell an extra ticket cuz my cousin Jamie went to Australia instead. (HI JAMIE!!!) I got to meet the guy I sold the ticket too. I was really hyper (imagine that) and he seemed kinda quiet. Hope I didn't scare him! Ya'll know I'm, um, special. That's the word, right?
During the intermission, I asked one of the security guys if he knew who I could give my 2 letters to for them to get to Tori and her wondrous drummer, Matt Chamberlain. Hopefully, they'll get them! For those of you who I hadn't gotten around to telling, I'm trying to see if I can get Matt to ok me to make his Official web site. There isn't one and there's no real place to find a bunch of Matt stuff anywhere. There should be... I've got one started at http://www.angelfire.com/in2/mattchamberlain.
I liked Alanis too! (A good Alanis site is Definitely Alanis Morissette) My first time seeing her. And I gotta give the girl credit... It takes guts to dance like that in front of people! :) Her outfit was horrible and ugly, but hey, it's her wardrobe, not mine. Whatever makes her happy... I think these are all the songs she played, although I have no idea of the order...
Baba, (this was the opener, actually)
Thank U,
Are you Still Mad, (I LOVE this song!! "Of coooouuuurrse you are")
Sympathetic Character,
That I would be good, (This song almost brought me to tears. It's so good. It's about, well, being good enough no matter what. "I would be good even if I gained ten pounds" {{{sob}}})
Uninvited, (Good)
so pure, (Crystal left to get a drink during this song, so then Kristi and I were next to each other and we danced. *g*)
all I really want, (Well done! Powerful!)
you Oughta Know, (This was soooo cathartic! Thousands of people screaming this song at the same time!)
Hand in my pocket, (This was ok, not much extra energy IMO)
You Learn, (I like this song a lot)
Ironic, (She stoped singing at several points in this song and let the audience do it. It was really cool.)
Forgiven, (Poweful! Dug it!)
Unsent, (I think she played this one, but I'm not positive...)
and one she said got cut at the last min from "SFIJ" about thoughts she thinks when she's alone. "These are the Thoughts" or something like that. [Earl, if by some chance of fate, you get to request a song when she comes to NZ, request that!] I liked it!)
And sometimes Alanis would put her mic on her head w/the part you talk into on her head and the part w/the cord out. My theory was she was trying to be a unicorn. Kristi's theory was that we were supposed to hear her thoughts. I like Kristi's theory better. :)
And if it seems like I wrote more about Alanis than Tori and wonder why, it's cuz Tori is more an experience that is felt. You can't exactly describe it very well. I will say that I enjoyed Tori's last year Plugged tour better than this one, but I still enjoyed it very much...
I'm tired and I'm going to go take a nap now!!
