Taylor and Walker took the elevator to the 2nd floor in complete silence. Once they got to the floor they stepped up to the hospital nurses station. The smell of Hospital hit there faces and they both groaned. They weren't used to the smell and like usual hated it. "Aleka Vasquilikis please?" Walker said to the nurse. That was the first time he had ever heard her last name and it was a very pretty one at that. "Room 4." The lady said nicely. She glanced at Taylor and then grinned. She turned her face towards the sign that read: No one under 18 may enter ICU. Walker started to walk away and Taylor still stood there. "You can go." She said to him. He flashed her a quick thank you smile and ran after Walker. Walker pressed the button and it opened into a big room. All the rooms had sliding glass doors instead of the regular swinging doors. Walker walked by all the doors until he came across 4. He stopped and turned to Taylor. "You go ahead. I'm gonna go see if we can get some sort of cot to sleep on." With that Walker walked away and Taylor hit the door button. It opened and there lay Ali. Her hair was sprawled out all over the pillow and she had tubes coming from her body like a vine. He walked slowly to her. Her face was pure white and she wore one of those ugly hospital gowns. Taylor held back his tears with all his might. He took the seat next to the bed and took her hand. He remembered from a previous episode of ER that even though a person may look asleep they can still hear you. "Hey Al." He said in a shaky voice. "It's me Tay." A tear slid down his cheek and landed on the clasped hands. He turned to look away from her only to see her clothing on a hook by the closet. He got up and walked over to it. He held her shirt she wore. It was covered in blood as well as her pants and her other shirt were too. He then realized he was holding part of someones life in his hands. The shirt had been covered with the risk of someone's life on the line. He slowly put it back on the hanger and he let more tears fall until he couldn't stop them. He took her hand again. "Ali, you can't leave me." He said shaking once again. The tears fell like a river from his eyes. "You gotta be strong, for me, please." He was pleading now. That doesn't seem right he thought. He's pleading for her to live for his sake when it should be for her sake. Suddenly the door opened and Walker and a Male nurse walked in with 2 roll away beds. Walker looked at his son who was holding Ali's hand and crying. He went to his son and put his arm around his shoulder "She's gonna be alright, Taylor. Just give her some time." Taylor looked at his father's face which was stone cold with sadness. He stopped crying and stared for a moment. His father's face looked like a very big guilt wave had over come him. Walker cared for Ali and he didn't even get to know her all that well. Taylor wrapped his arms around his dad and cried once again. The male nurse had been setting up the roll away beds while the two of them embrassed. Once he was finished he left quietly. After about another couple of minutes Walker laid down in bed and had fallen fast asleep. After all it was already 1:30 in the morning but Taylor couldn't sleep. He sat in the chair holding Ali's hand with so many thoughts running through his head. Would Ali be alright? What's going to happen to the man that hit his brothers jeep? Would Ali ever be the same? Taylor just leaned his head against the back of the chair and tried his best to wash away all the sadness over come of him. His thoughts were washed away by sleep and the constant beeping of the Heart moniter by his side. ~ 4:57 a.m. ~ The late night shift nurse was looking of Aleka's chart for a moment before noticing the boy in the chair next to her wake up. She continued to look over it and wrote down a couple marks. She was dressed in a nursing gown with her blond long hair pulled in a bun. Taylor stretched in the chair and looked at the lady. She was obviously a night person cause she was wide awake. She looked over to him and he flashed a quick smile. "I'm sorry. Did I wake you?" She asked him smiling. Taylor yawned and sat upright. "No." She smiled again and walked over to Ali's I.V. She took the bag off of it and put a smaller one back on it. "What's that?" Taylor said pointing to the I.V. He knew what that was but not the content of the new bag. She grabbed the chart that was lying on the end of the bed and showed him it. "It's a special medicine we have to use for her. She should be waking up soon I'd imagine." Taylor smiled at that thought. That's all he wanted to see was her eyes open and flash him a killer smile. The lady took the chart and left the room. He sat there and rumbed the palm of her hand. The picture of her hitting the back window repaeted itself over and over again in his head. He could picture the whole accident as if he had seen it all. A tear fell and he grabbed tight of reality again. He wrapped his hand in hers and squeezed. "Hey Al. How ya doin'?" He asked looking at her. She looked absoltly awful. Her face was pale and her lips were purple. She had oxygen tubes coming from her mouth and nose. There was a heart monitor that was hooked to the right of her chest which was at a constant beating noise. She had sevral bruises and scratches all over her legs, chest, arms, and face. Her physical appearance was nothing that couldn't heal in time but the doctors said she was hurt more inside than out but they said she should be alright after the surgery. Taylor started to cry harder than before and laid his head in Ali's lap. The noise didn't make Walker awake or make anyone alrmed. Taylor sobbed uncontrolably. In his thoughts were all imagines of him and Al that day. Roller Blading. Scaring. Crying. Playing. His thoughts were all erased in seconds when he felt someone squeeze his hand. Taylor jerked his head up off Ali's lap and saw her eyes flutter open. "Ali. How ya fellin'?" He moved his hand that wasn't holding hers to her forehead. He rumbed his thumb over her forehead. She smiled weakily at him. "Good I guess." Her voice was very shaky and scratchy but that didn't matter to Tay. Just hearing her made all the difference in the world. "How's Ike?" She questioned. "He only suffered from a broken ankle, bruises, and scratches." He answered. She sighed heavily. "Thank you Taylor." She whispered. "No problem." He whispered back. Chapter 7 Back To Main Page
