"Yo, Frick!" Nick yelled. "Frick wake up!!"
Brian opened his eyes. "I'm up Frack, I wasn't sleeping." Brian said startled. "I was just thinking..." he drifted off.
"What's wrong, Frick? You've been quiet ever since we left my house."
"Nothing.."
"Don't say nothing because I know something's wrong. I know you like my Nintendo system, so don't lie to me." Nick said seriously.
Brian laughed. "Now that scares me."
"I'm serious Brian, what's wrong?"
"Where's Theresa?" Brian said trying to change the subject.
"No way! That's not going to work."
"I...I..."
"You can trust me..." Nick said.
"I know."
"Well...I'm not going to beat it out of you, so..if you need me I'll be in the water." Nick said worried. He got up to leave.
"No, wait! I'm sorry, it's...it's Leigh Anne.."
"Leigh Ann? Are you guys fighting??" Nick asked. "What could be wrong, you guys never fight?"
"No, we aren't fighting. I'm just really not sure about us anymore."
"What?"
"I still love her and everything, but she seems too busy for me."
"Yeah but your busy too."
"I know, but we're both on vacation right now and she hasn't even picked up the phone to call me and when I do try to phone her, she makes up some lame excuse."
"Have you tried going over to her house?"
"Yeah, and she's never home."
"Oh, do u think..?"
"Do I think what?"
"Do you think she could be cheating on you?"
"What? What are you saying Nick?"
"Well, she probably doesn't want to hurt you."
"What? No she'd never do that. She wouldn't...No..I don't believe it!" Brian was angry now.
"I'm sorry Bri, it was a thought." Nick was scared now, he'd never seen Brian like this before. "Please, don't let it bother you now..we're here to have fun."
"I'm sorry Nick I can't do this. I'm going for a jog. I gotta clear my head."
"Alright, feel better okay? For me? If not for me, for basketball and Micheal Jordan?"
Brian smiled weakly, "I'll try."
Brian got up and started to jog along the shore.
'I really can't think too negative about all this, maybe there's a good explanation for all this. Maybe it's an obstacle that comes along with adulthood. Yeah, that's what it is.' Brian realized. 'I have to --'
Brian fell over, as it interrupted his thoughts, he had ran into a female, "I'm sorry I wasn't watching where I was going." No response.
The girl looked at Brian, and Brian just looked deep into her eyes. 'Wow she's got beautiful eyes.' Then Brian said, "Ummm..are you okay?"
"Yeah," replied the girl.
Brian looked at the girl, 'Hey she looks familiar.' he realized. "Umm..do I know you?" Brian received no response. "What's your name?"
"Karen."
"I knew it. Do you remember me? I was with Nick the other day. The guy who ran you over with rollerblades last week." he reminded her.
"Yeah, I remember," Karen said shyly. 'How could I forget, your the hottie.'
Brian looked at her again. She's wearing the same clothes as the last time I saw her, all torn up, her hair is a mess, her face still dirty and all stained up by tears. "Are you okay?" he asked her again.
"Yeah, I'm fine!" Karen replied rudely. 'Gee why do I have to run into him again. I betcha his friend is here too, and they're not going to leave me alone now.'
"I'm sorry," Brian said quickly, "I didn't mean to.."
The girl looked at his face, he looked hurt. 'He looks like a really sweet guy, maybe he can help me out. But...'
"It's okay," Karen said. "I didn't mean to snap at you."
Brian's face cheered up a bit, "Look I can leave you alone if you want me to.."
Karen didn't say anything and Brian took it as a yes. He got up and started to walk away. Karen thought to herself, 'No, don't go, I really need someone to talk to right now. And I want to get to know you better.'
"WAIT!!" she yelled out. Brian turned around and just stood there. "Don't go!"
"What?" Brian asked confused.
"Don't go."
"Are you sure?" Brian asked.
"Yeah, I'm positive."
Brian walked back to her and sat down beside her. "Man, it must be a coincidence I ran into you again, well actually, last time it was Nick."
Karen smiled.
'Wow, beautiful eyes and a beautiful smile.' Brian thought to himself. "So why haven't you called? Nick's been worried."
Karen was stuck for a second. "Why has he been worried?"
"Nick cares, and not to be rude but you look like a mess."
"I know I do, but..."
Brian was surprised that Karen didn't snap at him. "Can I ask why?" He looked at the girl who was sitting beside him uncomfortably squirming and moving around. "Well, you don't have to tell me if you don't want to, I know I'm a stranger and trusting a stranger is hard."
"Can I ask you something?"
"Sure."
"Why do you guys want to help a helpless, dirty and ugly girl like me?"
"Like I said, we care and honestly I can't see you like this, and same goes for Nick. And you aren't ugly. Don't say that. I betcha your a beautiful girl under all that dirt."
Karen looked at him with no expression. Brian thought to himself, 'Oh no I said something wrong.' Then Karen laughed. Brian was relieved. Karen's eyes sparkled at his statement. 'Does he really care? Do people really care?'
Brian saw the sparkle in her eyes. Brian smiled at her and looked out into the ocean. "Wow the ocean is so calm."
Karen looked at Brian, "Yeah it is, I come here all the time to think and it helps me a lot."
"Yeah, it does..." Brian said to himself. He had forgotten about Leigh Ann, well at least for the moment.
Meanwhile, Aaron and Dawn went off to get some food leaving Nick and Theresa in the water alone. They had been in the water for about two hours now.
"So Aaron, do you and Nick fight a lot?" Dawn asked.
"Yeah sometimes, but mostly because I beat him in Mario Kart." Aaron joked. "Yeah we do fight but we're cool most of the time because we're hardly at home or around each other. What about you do you fight with your siblings?"
"Nah, I'm always at Theresa's house and my brother is always doing his own thing."
"That's cool!"
"Yeah, so what do you like to do when your NOT on tour or NOT busy?" asked Dawn.
"Well, I just like to relax, cause I never get to do that anymore. I'm only 11 and I have tonnes of stress. Gee I wish I could be a normal kid and make music at the same time, but I guess that's kind of hard to do, isn't it?"
"Yeah, I might be selfish for saying this, but I'm glad you decided to do the music business, you are really talented and I love your songs."
"Thanks Dawn!" he reached over and gave her a hug.
"No problem." Dawn said. 'Oh it feels good to be in his arms.'
"Hey let's go play volleyball with Kevin and Howie?" Aaron suggested.
"Alright." Dawn agreed, 'But I'd rather be alone with you.' she thought to herself. And they ran towards the net.
In the water, Theresa and Nick were still fooling around, splashing each other in the water and trying to drown each other.
"I'm going to get you back!" yelled Theresa.
"Heh, I'd like to see that happen. You can't get a strong man like me!" Nick laughed and stood up trying to flex to show his muscles.
"Hah, what you got there is flab," Theresa giggled.
"No, this is muscle, come and see for yourself." Nick said offended.
"I'm kidding, nice muscles...." Theresa said seducingly as she walked towards Nick. Then she started cracking up uncontrollably.
"It's not funny," Nick said looking hurt. "Now your really dead!" He exclaimed chasing after her. He grabbed her and picked her up.
"Put me down! Put me down!" she yelled giggling.
"No way, you deserve this," Nick said devishly. He grinned at her and threw her in.
"Ok, now it's your turn." Theresa grabbed Nick from behind and dunked him into the water. He tried coming up, but couldn't, so he turned around and grabbed her legs. Theresa lost her balance and fell in as well. They both came up for air. They kept laughing and laughing. 'I'm having such a great time! God, he's so cute, I wish...nah, I'm not going to ruin it.'
'Theresa is so much fun to be around. There's something about her that I like, maybe it's her charm or her personality.' He had forgotten about Karen.
Then they both stopped their laughing and they just looked each other in the eyes. They didn't say anything or move. They just looked into each other's eyes.
