"I went for a walk and I lost track of time," Theresa lied.
"Travis stopped by this morning, he told me what happened." Dawn said.
"He did?" she asked surprised. "What did he say?"
"Well, he said you broke up with him last night as everything was going well and once a BSB video came on TV, you blew him off and left." Dawn explained. "Theresa, what happened?" Dawn asked looking for answers.
"Dawn, I honestly don't know. Travis and I were kissing and it was really in the heat of the moment, but we were watching music videos earlier and left the TV on and the 'I'll Never Break Your Heart' was on and I stopped, they showed Nick's gorgeous face and then I looked at Travis and I realized that Travis reminded me so much of Nick. I couldn't live with myself only going out with Travis because he looked like Nick. After what had happened last night at Kevin's house, I realized that I really like Nick and I'm going to do my best to get him for myself." Theresa said with confidence.
"Theresa, that's not a good idea, he's with Karen now, you were there." Dawn said concerned.
"I don't care, he belongs with me..." Theresa stopped. "Who am I kidding? We're leaving to go back home soon, it'll never last anyways." She frowned.
"I have to tell you something Theresa." Dawn said. "No actually your mom has to tell you something but I think I'm going to tell you instead." She said not able to keep the secret any longer. "We're moving here to Orlando."
"What?" Theresa raised her eyebrows. "You're moving here??"
"You are too!"
"I am?? Why?" she said sadly.
"Our fathers got jobs down here."
Theresa walked over to her bed, 'Oh no, I have to stay here... I'll never get Nick and Karen out of my face now... But I guess this gives me time to steal Nick away from that slut!' she thought slyly.
"Theresa, what are you thinking?" Dawn asked looking at Theresa.
"Oh, nothing, it's just that I can't believe it. We're going to be leaving all our friends in Wisconsin and start a new life here. I don't know how I'm going to cope with that."
"But think about it we get to hang with the Backstreet Boys and make new friends."
"Yay! Fun?!" Theresa said sarcastically.
Dawn decided to change the subject because she could feel the coldness in Theresa's voice. "Umm... Travis wanted you to call him when you got back."
"I will later." Theresa lied.
"I really think you should talk to him, he looked really torn up when I saw him this morning."
"Dawn, I didn't want to hurt him or anyone else..." Theresa said as she started to cry. "I just wish my life was easier to live, I wish I could accept the fact that Nick's happy but not with her. Anyone else but her."
"You can't stop a person from falling in love." she said as she went over to give her a hug. "But I just wish that you can try to get to know Karen better, accept her, she isn't that bad you know. And I just wish that you would let go of Nick. He's happy now and I know that's what you want for him, right?"
"Yeah I do want him to be happy but just not with her."
"Theresa, I also wish that you would share things with me. We're best friends, you can trust me with everything."
"I do Dawn, it's just that sometimes I feel you're against me.... like last night.. You stuck up for Karen and you.." she cried even harder.
"I wasn't sticking up for Karen I was just watching out for you because I know that you'd regret what you did.. and hopefully if I succeeded you'd thank me for it... but.."
Theresa listened intently. "Thank you Dawn. I don't know what I'd do without you and I'm sorry for how I've been treating you. I haven't been in the best of moods lately." She went over to give Dawn a hug.
"I forgive you, just promise me that you'll go talk to Travis and that you'll try to get along with Karen."
"I promise that I'll go talk to Travis but I can't promise you that I'll get a long with Karen."
"Well, at least make an effort to be nice. Oh yeah, and please try to let Nick go."
"Anything for you." Theresa said as she cringed at the thought of being friends with Karen.
Meanwhile back at the house, "Let's go play some ball." Nick suggested.
"Yeah, I haven't played in awhile." Brian said.
"You guys go ahead. I'm going to chill in here." Karen said.
"C'mon..." Nick begged.
"Yeah, it'll be great. A game of ball with my two best friends." Brian joined in.
"No, I suck anyways." she lied. The truth was that she played in high school to get away from all the trouble at home.
"C'mon...Rok's not that great either." Nick joked.
"Shut up Nick, like you're any better." Brian laughed.
Nick walked over to Karen and sat down beside her. "Please?" he whispered softly in her ear. "I want to show Rok that my girlfriend can kick his ass." he nibbled her ear. "And when you beat him... I'll have to kick your ass."
"In that case, you're on!" she got up taking the challenge.
"What'd you say to her?" Brian laughed at her eagerness.
"I told her that she could beat you anytime."
"Haha that's a joke." Brian laughed.
"Oh you don't think that I can beat you eh?" Karen said. "Well let me change and I'll take you both on." she challenged.
Brian and Nick headed outside. "You guys are really cute together." Brian commented.
"Aren't we?" Nick awed.
"Yeah, you guys look really happy." Brian said. "And since you stayed over last night tells me you're going to be over a lot aren't you?"
"But of course."
"So you going to be sleeping over often?" Brian laughed. "I don't want to be kept up every night when you guys have your fun."
"Brian, who do you think I am? It's too early in our relationship to have a physical relationship." Nick said. "But she is hard to resist." Nick grinned.
"I'm sure she is." Brian laughed. "All I can say as long as you guys are happy."
"Well guys bring it on!!" Karen yelled. As she ran out to the driveway. She was wearing a pair of shorts and a sports bra. Her stomach had a slight imprint of some abs. You could tell she worked out.
'Wow, look at her.' Brian said. 'Nick's right, this girl is hard to resist.' he thought. 'Nick's a lucky man.' he pondered. "Okay, let's play." he said throwing her the ball. "You think you can beat me don't you?"
"Hmm... I don't know, I kind of suck!" she smiled.
"Rok, you and Karen play first then I'll take her on." Nick challenged.
"Alright, we go up to 5. You can have the ball first. After all you are a lady." Brian teased.
Karen took the ball and checked it to Brian. As he checked it back, she took the ball to the net but Brian stuffed her. "Rok, man, stuffing a lady isn't very gentleman-like." Nick laughed.
Brian took the ball and threw it into the net. "1 for me," he said.
'Wow, he's cute,' Karen said. 'He takes his basketball seriously.'
15 minutes had past and the score was 4 - 1 for Brian. "You're going down Karen. Game point!!" Brian taunted.
"Well, Brian, I told you I sucked." she lied. 'Now I'm going to show him.'
Brian dribbled the ball as Karen stole it from out of no where. She took the ball and made a beautiful layup. "Alright, Karen!" Nick cheered.
"2 for me." Karen said. Brian took the ball and shot it towards the net. But Karen blocked his shot. Nick starred in awe. She grabbed the ball and made a fade away jump shot. "Now I have 3..." Brian lost control of the ball as Karen went to pick it up. She stopped, looked at Brian with a huge grin and shot the ball off the backboard. "4!" she said. "Now we're tied. Do you forfeit yet?"
"Never!" he said.
Karen had the ball as Brian took it away from under her. He headed towards the net trying to make a layup. The ball jumped on the rim and didn't go in. It fell back down into Karen's hands as she took it out and as Brian guarded her, she made a spin move and shot the ball. It bounced once, and then twice and fell straight into the hoop. "5! I win!"
Nick jumped up. "Wow, where did you learn to play like that?"
"Yeah, Miss I SUCK! You were only letting me win weren't you?" Brian said.
Karen laughed. "Well, I played ball all of high school. I was on the school teams. MVP for 5 years straight." she bragged.
"You lied? You said you've never played ball." Nick said offended.
"Well, I didn't want to ruin your egos." Karen said. "Now it's your turn Nicky boy!"
"Ummm..." Nick fidgeted. "I forfeit."
"You forfeit?" Brian laughed. "Are you scared your going to get your butt kicked by a girl? And especially by your girlfriend? Wimp!!"
"No, I just want to let her keep her pride." Nick smiled.
"Alright, I stand undefeated." Karen laughed. "But you're challenge is still up. MR. I'M SO GOOD!" she grinned.
"Is that so?" Nick said as he picked her up. "Yuck, you're all sweaty."
"Sweaty I am," Karen smiled.
"I think I'm going to puke." Brian said. "I'm going inside."
Nick and Karen did not notice that Brian had left. They were starring into each other's eyes. "Well, let's go sit down." Karen said. "I need to catch my breathe."
Nick put her down and they headed to the swing. Nick sat down and pulled Karen on top of his lap. "You may be sweaty, but you're still as beautiful as ever." Nick complimented. "Now kiss me sexy."
Karen looked at him with surprise. "Demanding aren't we?" she laughed.
"Well, how else can I get you to kiss me?"
"How about please!"
"Please?"
"That's better." She leaned in and gave him a peck on the lips.
"That isn't a kiss." Nick said sadly.
"It isn't?" Karen raised her eyebrows.
"This is a kiss." He pulled her chin in and kissed her passionately. Karen embraced Nick tightly and deepened the kiss.
Standing on the porch, Brian watched intently. 'How I wish to have a girl back in my arms for me to love and hold? Like Nick and Karen.'
"Hey Brian." said a voice. "Shouldn't you leave those two alone?"
Brian turned around quickly and there stood Leigh Anne. "What are you doing here?" Brian asked.
"Well, last night I was worried about you and I asked Kev to tell you to call me and you haven't so I decided to stop by before I go meet Jordan."
'Jordan?' Brian thought. "Sorry, I was busy all day," he lied.
"Are you okay Brian?" Leigh Anne asked. "You look sad."
"I was just wishing that we were still together. Look at them, they're so happy. We had all that..." Brian drifted.
"Oh... I wish we were still together too, but it just won't work if one of us didn't return the feelings."
"Yeah, I'm sorry.. I guess..." Brian said. "Hey, Karen beat me in basketball today." he said changing the subject.
"Oh did she, she beat the king of basketball." Leigh Anne laughed.
"Yeah, she looks really happy with Nick." he admired.
Leigh Anne noticed his topic of conversation. 'The thought of Karen seems to take his mind off things. He likes her.....' she wondered. "Yeah she does."
Brian looked at Leigh Anne. "Well, I'm going to take a shower. I am really sweaty. Karen and I worked up a sweat."
"Okay, I'll talk to you later."
"Umm.. Leigh Anne bring Jordan over one day. I have to apologize for blowing up on him." Brian surprisingly said.
"Are you sure about that?" Leigh Anne answered surprised.
"Yeah, if we're all going to be friends, it's a start." he smiled and headed up to take a shower. 'Well, it is a start. To get a long with the guy that she dumped me for.' he thought sarcastically.
