Willie Dixon, 1983. Recorded: 31-01-61 |
Johnny Kidd
(vocals) - Alan Caddy (rthm) - Brian Gregg (bass) -
Clem Catinni (drums) |
A
surprisingly effective rendition of an R&B song that the Rolling Stones
would make famous some three years later. Kidd's voice and the way
he pleaded with the lyrics
were very potent, and EMI probably decided it was just too much for the
sensible and sensitive record-buying public
to appreciate, despite the fact that this version owed more to
traditional Rock 'n' Roll than Rhythm & Blues. At the time R&B was not yet a commercially viable
proposition for such a (perceived) innocent pop chart.

I don't want you to be no slave
I don't want you to work all day
I don't want you to be true
I just wanna make love to you
Love to you, coo-oo-ool, love to you
All I wanna do is to buy you clothes
All I wanna do is to be with you in those
There is nothing more you can do
Leave me making love to you
Love to you, coo-oo-ool, love to you
'Cos I can tell by the way you walk that walk
I can tell by the way you talk that talk
I can know by the way you treat your guy
That I can give you all the loving in the whole wide
world
All I want to do is to make sure that you're well fed
And to go out and earn you plenty of bread
I don't want you, sad and blue
I just wanna make love to you
Love to you, coo-oo-ool, love to you
'Cos I can tell by the way you walk that walk
I can tell by the way you talk that talk
I can know by the way you treat your guy
That I can give you all the loving in the whole wide
world
I just want to give you plenty of bread
Mmmm, make sure that you're well fed
I don't want you to be sad and blue
I just wanna make love to you
Coo-oo-ool, love to you, mmmm, love you
(to fadeout)
Mmmm, you're my chick and I sure dig you well
I wanna make lo-o-o-ove to you (improvise) |
