ALTERNATIVE BANDS

NO DOUBT

No Doubt is a pretty good alternative band. The band consists of Tony Kanal, Adrian Young, Tom Dumont, and of course Gwen Stefani. The band is most recongized for Gwen, who is known for her trademark bindi, her clothes, and her great voice. This band had a rough start however before hitting it big. They began their band in highschool in 1987. Their first 2 cd's pretty much bombed big time. It wasen't until Tragic Kingdom was released that they finally became known. The band also almost broke up once due to the fact that Gwen was getting all the attention as if she was the whole band, and also because she and Tony were not an item anymore it was kind of awkward for awhile. They have seemed to have put all that behind them and are doing better then ever now. Gwen has also snagged a real great fiancee, Gavin Rossdale!

This man has a style all his own. From his funky outfits to his unusual mannerism on stage Beck has became very well known over the last couple of years. Beck first became popular when he released his hit single "Loser" a few years back. It then seemed like he had vanished for awhile, but then this year he made his comeback releasing songs like "New Pollution", "Where its at" and "Devil's Haircut".

R E M

R.E.M is a great band. I have yet to buy one of their Cd's but I have heard many of their songs and I like them all. In my opinion their best song is "Everybody Hurts". It is an extremely sad and depressing song, but I love it! Their latest album is "Adventures in Hi-Fi". From this album I really like the song "Bittersweet me". They are a good band overall and have been around for many years.

NIRVANA

Nirvana is one of the best groups to ever be. Kurt Cobain was amazing. His song lyrics were deep and his voice and guitar playing was just awsome. Unfortuantly his career can to an abrupt end in 1994 when he commited suicide. This event severly upset many of his thousands of fans. He left behind his wife, Courtney Love, and his young daughter, Francis Bean. No one knows why he would do such a thing as to kill himself when he had so much. It has even been said that he did not commite suicide but that someone murdered him, possibly his wife. His legend will always live on in the hearts of all his fans. Other members of this Seattle band was Dave Grohl, now with Foo Fighters, and Krist Novoselic. The produced many great albums. The album that is most recognized is "Nevermind" which contains the famous single "Smells like Teenspirit". The band also released another album after the death of Kurt, entitled "From the Muddy banks of the Wishkah".

AGE OF ELECTRIC

I bet not many of you have heard of this band. They are a Canadian band which at the moment have out the single "Remote Control". They have been around for 8 years now, but they are just starting to get really popular. I do not know alot about this band, but I do know that they are very good and they have alot of potential. Recently I saw them in concert....it was great! Although it is very hard to concentrate on the music when you are being slammed into by thousands of screaming fans, they were awsome. The lead singer, Todd Kerns, is the sexiest man on earth, which makes this band even better. So if you havent yet heard of this band keep listening, I'm sure you will like them as much as I do.

I Mother Earth is a great band. They have been around a long time, and have a couple of albums out. I'm afraid I do not have much info on them, but I saw them at Edge Fest and they were great! The bad news is that Edwin (the bands lead singer) is leaving the band. He is going to venture out on his own to make his own career in the music business. Meanwhile the rest of the band members are going to continue with I Mother Earth. They have already started auditions for a new lead singer. The band will not be the same without Edwin, I do not believe that either the band or Edwin will make it big without each other, but hey I could be wrong.

SMASHING PUMPKINS

This is one of my favourite bands. The Pumpkins have been around for awhile now and they just keep getting better and better. From their first album "Gish" to their latest box set "The Aeroplane Flies High", this band has produced so many great songs. The Pumpkins consist of Billy Corgan, D'arcy, and James Iha. Until recently Jimmy Chamberlin was apart of this band. That is, until he was found in possesion of heroin yet again...but this time it was on the night that Jonathan Melvoin, a temporary but soon to be permanet member of the band, died of a herion overdose. Since Jimmy was fired the band has been doing great. They seem to always be producing more song and albums. Their latest songs have a different sound to them. They are more electronic then usual.

MARYLIN MANSON

Marilyn Manson sort of started coming about in 1990--the name. It's something that sort of came to him from watching a lot of talk shows and Hollywood Babylon and those types of things and realize that Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson were some of the most memorable people from the '60's for him. With his offensive lyrics he continues to still be on top with Anti-Christ superstar going triple platinum.
