“And that’s the story.” Scott finished.
“That’s really freaky.” Bob murmured.
“Yeah, it is.” Scott agreed.
Bob glanced at the clock in the hall. “Um, we should go to bed, it’s like, 3:00 in the morning.”
“Yeah, we should.”
Together, in silence, Bob and Scott walked towards their rooms. The hall was very dim. Scott clutched his bat again, despite the fact that Bob was standing right beside him. Scott peered into his room, and his heart skipped a beat. Something was hovering on top of Clint.
“Clint!” Scott screamed, took a running leap onto Clint’s bed, hoping to tackle the creature lurking on Clint’s bed.
“Scott!” Clint jumped out of his bed, and looked down at Scott, who was tangled, yet again, in a mass of pillows and blankets. “What the hell were you doing?” he cried.
“I thought that…” Scott trailed off.
Clint looked at his big brother intensively. Something was wrong.
“Scott, what’s wrong?” Clint asked.
Scott was about to tell Clint when a creak interrupted him. The three of them looked at each other in silence. Scott picked up his bat again, and inched his way towards the door, with his two younger brothers tip-toeing behind him.
“I feel like an idiot.” Clint mumbled.
“Shush.” Bob said to Clint, who was trapped in the middle of his two brothers.
“Bob, stop it!” Clint hissed.
“What?” Bob cried.
“Your hands! They’re all over the place!”
“They are not!” Bob protested.
“Yes they are!”
“Shut up!” Scott said.
“What are you guys doing?” another voice asked.
Scott, Clint and Bob screamed and turned around. There stood their youngest brother, Dave, clutching his blue teddy bear, given to him by his best friend, Becka.
“Dave!” The three boys cried.
“What?” Dave asked. “Why are you guys so scared?”
“Oh nothing.” Scott shivered.
Suddenly, Dave screamed.
Scott, Clint and Bob jumped a foot and fell down in a heap.
Dave looked down at them.
“I…uh…saw a spider, and…uh…you guys squished it.”
Clint, Bob and Scott looked at each other and quickly got up.
“What are you doing up so late? Scott asked Dave.
“The same question goes for you three.” Dave retorted.
“I asked first.” Scott said.
“Fine. I went to the bathroom, and I just got out. Then I saw the three of you, inching your way out the door.” Dave laughed. “What’s wrong?”
“We, uh…” Scott looked at Clint and Bob.
“Don’t look at me. You were about to tell me what’s up with you when Bathroom Boy over there interrupted us.” Clint rolled his eyes.
“We should sleep.” Dave yawned.
“No, I don’t think so.” Scott said.
“Why not?” Clint asked.
“Cuz, I’ve been scared silly.” Scott replied.
Dave laughed, but stopped when Scott glared at him. Dave sighed.
“Well, it’s 4:30 in the morning. What should we do if we can’t sleep?” Clint asked.
“Too bad Dad and Sheila aren’t home.” Said Dave.
“Why is that?” asked Bob.
“Cuz we could sleep in their room!” Dave said proudly.
The rest of the guys stared at him.
Dave sighed. “This is no fun.”
“Come on.” Scott said, leading them into Dave and Bob’s room. “You know, something still bothers me.”
“It might be better if you tell us what’s up.” Said Clint.
Dave nodded.
“Ok, but sit down first.” Scott said.
Clint and Bob sat down on Bob’s bed, while Dave sat down on his own bed.
“Here we go…” Scott began his story.
Dave, Bob and Clint sat completely still after Scott told his story...
“Creepy.” Dave said quietly.
“Then I saw a figure lurking around Clint’s bed, so I ran to it, and tried to tackle it.”
“So that’s why you jumped on my bed.” Said Clint.
“That’s right. You didn’t see it?” Scott asked Clint.
“No.” Clint shook his head.
Scott turned to Bob. “What about you?”
Bob thought for a second. “I did see something, but I didn’t get a good look at it.” Bob admitted.
“This is really creepy.” Said Dave. “Does this mean, we have someone lurking in our house when we’re sleeping?”
“Looks like it.” Scott said softly.
Suddenly, the lights went out. The whole house was pitch black.
That was when Bob thought he saw a figure coming into the room. He saw it run pass him, and towards Dave.
“Oh my god.” Said Bob.
“HELP!” Screamed Dave. There was a crash.
“Dave! Scott ran to him while Clint ran to the light switch.
“The light switch isn’t working!” Clint screamed.
Bob ran to the desk to turn on the desk light.
Scott was on top of the “Thing” who was still attacking Dave, who was still struggling.
“The electricity is gone!” Clint cried.
“Flashlight!” Bob dove for his bed. Cling ran to help Scott.
“Found it!” Bob cried.
The figure quickly got up and ran. When Bob turned on the flashlight, “It” was nowhere to be seen.
