Friends 'Til the End
(Louise)
"What the-?" I asked when someone shoved into me. I turned and saw Bob Moffatt walking briskly away. Annoying little…
"Hey Louise!" My friend Melissa was walking towards me, wearing her blue and white cheerleading uniform. Her dark hair tied up in a high pony tail.
I remembered the day I met Melissa. We were in second grade when this sixth grader pushed me off the swing. Melissa ran up to him and punched the guts out of him. Melissa used to be a total tomboy. She's naturally athletic and is really strong. It's hard to see her as a cheerleader, but she is one now.
"Hey Mel." I said.
"What's wrong?" She asked when she saw the look on my face.
"Bob Moffatt. That's what's wrong!"
"What happened?"
"He ran into me, AGAIN! No 'sorry', no 'excuse me', no nothing!" I said angrily.
"I'm sure he didn't to be so rude." Melissa said with a smile. "I'm sure that he likes you and don't know how to tell you."
"I doubt that. Besides, I have Russell, remember?" I asked, grabbing my gym bag. "I have track practice now."
"Well, see you tonight at the pizza place, right? I have cheerleading practice now, and we have a game tonight. Are you going to the game tonight?" She asked me. I grinned to myself. Melissa is such a gabber.
"Yeah, I'll be there. Russell is on the basketball team, remember?" I asked her.
"So are Bob, Clint, Scott and Dave Moffatt." Melissa reminded me with a smile.
"Yes, yes, yes." I said. "Especially the adorable Dave Moffatt, right? Everyone knows that you like him."
"Err…" was Melissa's reply.
"What?" I asked.
"Ahem." Said Melissa.
I looked up and saw the four Moffatt brothers looking at me, each carrying their own gym bag.
"So Melissa, you like Dave, eh?" said Clint with a smile.
Melissa didn't answer. I can tell that she's blushing. Dave was blushing too.
"Yeah, Melissa has a total crush on Dave." I said slyly.
"Well, Dave has a total crush on Melissa." Said Scott, grinning.
"Well, isn't this interesting." I said, grinning slyly.
"Well… I gotta go to cheerleading practice now…um…I'll see ya after the game tonight." Melissa said and jogged away, her pony tail bouncing behind her.
I glanced at my watch. "Um, I better go too, I have track practice." I said and walked away too, leaving the 4 confused Moffatts behind.
(Melissa)
Well, isn't this nice? Louise just told them that I like Dave!
I walked into the gym and met my fellow cheerleaders.
"Hey Melissa!" said Alice. Alice and I are co-captains. She's also Scott's girlfriend.
"Alright!" I shouted. The girls stopped fooling around and watched us. "Let's stretch out our muscles first, and then I wanna see some cartwheels." I instructed.
"Camilla, straighten your legs when you do a cartwheel." Said Alice.
After 1 full hour of practice, we all went back home. The game will be in 1 ½ hours and I needed to take a shower and grab something to eat.
I took a long walk home, despite the little amount of time I had. I love the great outdoors. I glanced at the tracks. Louise was sprinting the 400 meter.
"Go Louise!" I shouted. She turned around and waved.
I walked all the way home, thinking about Dave, when someone ran up behind me.
"Hey Mel, wait up!" a voice said. I know that voice. It's Bob.
"Hey Bob." I said with a smile. He was sweaty from basketball practice.
"Um, Melissa, you're Louise's best friend, and I was wondering if she likes me."
"Oh Bob, I thought you knew that Louise has a boyfriend, Russell." I said sympathetically.
"Oh." Bob's face fell.
"I'm sorry." I said.
"Are you and Louise going to the game tonight?" he asked.
"Yeah, I have to!" I said with a laugh, "and yes, Louise will be there."
"Oh yeah, Russell's playing." He said.
"Don't worry, Bob." I said with a sympathetic smile.
"No prob." He said and jogged away. "Oh yeah, Melissa?" he asked.
I turned. "Yes?"
"Do you have a boyfriend?"
What the heck? "No, I don't have a boyfriend…at the moment."
I went inside my house and was greeted by my dog, Willie.
"Hey boy!" I said and petted him.
"Hey Melissa, can I borrow your *N Sync CD?" asked my brother Josh.
"Sure." I said. "Trying to impress Anne, are you? Here's a tip for you: LIP synch!" I laughed and dodged the pillow that my brother threw. I grabbed my bathrobe and walked into the bathroom.
After a hot shower, I got out and wrapped a towel around my head. I dried my hair and put it up in a pony tail. I walked out of the bathroom and back into my room, put my uniform on, and put my make up on. I grabbed my bag, put my sketchers shoes on and ran out the door.
(Dave)
I'm gonna do it. I am going to do it.
(Bob)
Lucky Russell. Louise is a great girl. Louise is going out with Russell. It's not fair. Louise is taken. I have no chance.
(Melissa)
"Is everybody ready?" I asked through my microphone.
"YEAH!!!!" the crowd cheered. Holy cow! The crowd was enormous!
We cheered when the basketball teams ran out onto the court. I scanned the crowd to find Louise and I found her, looking stylish in a baby blue tee and flared navy blue jeans. She saw me and waved. I smiled and waved back.
We did a couple of cheers and when the game was over, our school won 40-32.
Louise ran down from the bleachers to say a quick hello to me and went to Russell. Bob looked sad.
"Everyone! Dave Moffatt has something to say." Announced Alice.
I looked at Alice. She was in Scott's arms, holding the microphone, smiling slyly at me. I looked at Scott, Clint and Bob. They were smiling slyly at me too. WHAT THE HECK?!
Dave walked up on the platform. "Excuse me." he said into the mic.
The whole crowd was silent.
He turned to me. "Melissa Bass (hehe!), would you go out with me?"
I gasped. Did he really say that? Oh my god! Then I noticed that the light was on me and everyone expects me to say an answer.
Tears welled up in my eyes. I don't know what to say!
"Yes." I said. "I will go out with you."
Dave's eyes light up like a lantern. He grinned, ran up to me, all sweaty, gave me a hug and kissed me-in front of the whole school!
The whole gym cheered. Dave and I waved at the crowd.
Josh jogged up to me, his face dripping with sweat. "All right Dave! Good choice, picking my little sister!" he said, giving Dave a high five.
(Louise)
I looked at Melissa's face. It was all teary, but with tears of joy. I looked up at Russell. He was smiling down at me. His blond hair hanging in his face, he reminds me of Nick Carter.
"Excuse me." Russell suddenly said, and walked out the door.
I walked towards Melissa and Dave. Bob and Clint were with them.
"Hey Louise! Do you want to go to the Pizza Place with us?" asked Melissa.
"It depends. Who is 'us'?" I asked.
"You, me, Melissa, Clint, Bob, Scott and Alice." Replied Dave.
"Um, I don't think so. I'm sitting with Russell." I said and turned away. I can't bear to look at the hurt in Bob's eyes.
I walked out the door to look for Russell. I walked into the cool night air, turned the corner and…and saw Russell making out with another girl. I gasped.
Russell and the girl looked up. The girl was Monica Williams. She's a snob. A snob in a higher grade.
Russell walked up to me.
"Look Louise, I'm sorry you saw that, but I think that we should see other people." And with that, he turned around and walked away.
What? I don't believe it! I've been going out with Russell for 1 ½ years, and he just ended it like that?!
I couldn't take it anymore, I turned around and ran…and ran…and ran into somebody¾hard.
"Louise? Are you okay?" Bob asked.
I slid down onto the ground and cried. I felt Bob's arm around me, holding me. That's when I found out that Bob actually cares.
"Come on." He said, still holding onto me. He guide me back into the gym.
"Louise! What's wrong?" Melissa asked as she ran over and gave me a hug.
"Russell." I managed to choke out. "Russell broke up with me."
"Oh no!" cried Melissa. "What did he do?"
"He was making out with Monica."
"Monica Williams?"
I nodded.
"That's it!" Melissa said angrily. "I'm going to go and kick his ass!" She turned to Scott and Alice, who joined the group when I left. "Alice, can you stay with Louise? Bob, Scott, Clint, Dave, come with me."
The boys were about to follow her when I called them back. "Keep an eye out for Melissa, ok? Monica can be nasty, and Melissa can really be violent."
The boys nodded and followed Melissa out the door.
(Melissa)
I walked out the door and saw Russell and Monica making out. Still in my cheerleading uniform, I took a run and I jumped him.
"What the¾?" he asked surprised when he fell onto the ground.
"You bastard! How could you do that to Louise? How could you?!" I screamed.
"Melissa you little terror, get off of him." Said Monica.
"Shut up you bitch!" I screamed. I was still on top of Russell, punching him…until I felt someone whack me hard on my back. It couldn't have been Dave, or any of the Moffatts. I looked up. It was Monica.
"Don't you dare call me a bitch!" she screamed.
"I can call you a bitch whenever I darn well please!" I screamed and pushed her down onto the ground too.
Then I felt strong arms on my waist and they pulled me off of them. I looked up. Scott.
"Melissa, calm down." Scott said. He handed me to Dave.
"Let me go, I'm gonna go and kick his ass!"
Dave turned me around and I looked into his deep brown eyes.
"Melissa, please, calm down." Dave said.
I looked at Monica and Russell. Monica was fierce, and was held back by the strong arms of Scott and Bob. Clint was holding on to Russell and they were walking towards me.
"Melissa." He began.
"Back off." Dave said as he wrapped his arms around me protectively.
"Look Melissa, I know I'm scum and I deserved that, but please, I know I did something wrong, and I want you to forgive me. I know that I broke Louise's heart, but I still want to be friends with her." He said.
I didn't say anything. I watched him walk over to Monica, took her hand and walked away.
I took a deep breath. Took Dave's hand, and walked back into the gym.
(Louise)
I watched as Melissa and the guys walked back into the gym.
"Russell and Monica won't be messing with you anymore." Said Melissa. "Let's go to the Pizza Place."
The eight of us walked over to the Pizza Place (Clint's girl friend Tiffany came with us).
When we were walking to the Pizza Place, I found out that Bob was actually the one for me. He liked me all this time, and must have felt so sad when I'm with Russell. I like Bob. I love him. He was there for me, just like Melissa, Alice and the rest of the Moffatts when Russell did that to me. I love him. I love Bob Moffatt. It's a feeling I've never experienced before, and well…I like it.
When Bob was about to walk into the building I grabbed his hand.
When he turned to look at me, I leaned towards him and kissed him. He didn't hesitate, of course, he kissed me back.
Bob is better than Russell.
Melissa is my best friend. The best friend a girl could ever have.
When the kiss ended, Bob and I joined them at the table. When the drinks came, I raised my coke.
"I'd like to propose a toast." I began. "Friends, till the end."
They all raised their glasses. "FRIENDS TILL THE END!"
The End
