“Alex…” Melissa said.
“Come here.” Alex said.
“No.”
“I said come here!” he yelled, and lunged for her.
I grabbed Melissa’s hand and pulled her away. Alex crashed into the wall and fell down. He got up again, and glared at me. I realized that I had my arms around her.
“Don’t touch my girlfriend!”
“She’s not your girlfriend!” The door banged opened again. There stood Wendy, looking fierce.
“Go away, bitch.” Alex said, swaying.
“Don’t you DARE call me a bitch!” Wendy screamed.
“You’re so drunk…” Melissa whispered.
“No I’m not.” Alex protested.
Anna came down the stairs. She grabbed Alex by the arm and said, “Get out.”
“You can’t make me!” Alex stuttered. “This is NOT your house!”
“GET OUT!” Anna screamed.
Whoa…
She grabbed Alex, and threw him out. Alex banged on the door for us to let him back in. Justin’s arm is still around Melissa for comfort, and that really pissed Alex off. He got a rock, and threw it against the glass window. The window shattered, pieces of glass flew everywhere.
Everyone screamed, and Justin hugged Melissa closer to him. They looked as if they’re going out or something. Well, they did.
Alex laughed evilly as he got into his car. I ran out the door and grabbed the keys from his hand.
“Alex, you can’t drive.”
“Oh yeah?” Alex sneered. “Watch me.” He grabbed for the keys.
I clutched the keys in my hand. “Melissa!” I called. “Call Steve!”
About 5 minutes later, Steve ran to Vivian’s house. He took the keys from me and got into the car. We watched as they drove away, and we could hear Alex’s laughter as the car went out of sight.
All of us, except for Vivian and Lucas picked up the pieces of glass, and threw them away. This is gonna be bad…
At 11:30pm, Melissa and I left the party. It wasn’t even over yet, but Melissa wasn’t feeling well, and I should walk her home. I watched her as she gave Justin a goodbye hug. You could really sense some feelings there, as if Melissa still likes him. Well, I don’t know. My heart sank a little then… I guess I don’t like watching Melissa hug another guy. Do I like her? I mean, she’s like a sister to me. She’s a total sweetheart, and do I really want to mess up our friendship? I don’t know. Hey, it’s not like I own her or anything. Melissa could do anything she wants…
But what about the ‘I love you’ thing? What was that supposed to mean? Does Melissa really love me? Did she just say that for the heck of it? Does she love me as a friend? Did she think that I was Justin? Maybe she read some cheesy love novel and she wants to test the power of the 3 words: I. Love. You.
Melissa and I walked in silence. It was July, so it’s not that dark out…yet. I glanced at her…her dark hair flowed around her shoulders in soft curls. I laughed silently to myself.
Melissa glanced at me. “What are you laughing at?” she asked.
“You curled your hair.” I said.
“So? I’ve curled it before.”
“I remembered that your hair never curls.”
“Well, I used a little hair spray.” Melissa looked away.
I coughed. “Remember the time that you used a curling iron on me?”
“Yeah!” Melissa laughed.
***Flashback***
“No! No! No!” I cried, running around Melissa’s house. I was 7 years old.
“Come on, Davey!” Melissa begged. “Pretty please?”
“No!”
Melissa’s face fell. “Ok.” She sniffled.
My face fell too. “I’m sorry.” I walked over to her.
When I got close enough, she grabbed me by the wrists, pulled me onto a chair, and tied me with her skipping rope. She laughed.
“CHEATER!” I cried.
Melissa carefully picked up her curling iron, and slowly and carefully, curled my hair.
Tears streamed down my cheeks when I saw myself in the mirror. I looked terrible! Mass of curls sprang out of my head.
When Melissa saw my face, her face fell. She untied me and hugged me. We fell onto the carpet.
“I’m sorry Davey. I’m sorry I did this to you.” Tears formed in her eyes. I watched as a tear slid down her face.
I wiped my tears, used my finger, and wiped away her tear.
Melissa took my hand and led me into the bathroom. She set me down on a chair, and tilted my head back into the sink.
She tested the water, and started to soak my hair, gently massaging my scalp with baby shampoo. It was so relaxing that I closed my eyes. A little smiled formed on my face.
About 10 minutes later, the water stopped running, and a towel covered my head. Melissa took a brush and a blow dryer, and fixed my curly head. When my hair was dried, she hugged me again.
“I’m really sorry.”
***End Flashback***
“I’m so sorry about that.” Melissa said.
“That’s ok. I guess it wasn’t that bad.” I said.
“Not that bad?” Melissa cried. “You were crying your eyes out!”
“So were you!” I laughed.
Melissa gave me a puppy face, and that made me laugh even more.
When we reached to her house, I gave her a hug, and went next door to mine.
