The eight of us walked into an ice-cream parlor called “Mr. Frosty”. I find that name very amusing, and to my surprise, Karin did too. Together we laughed at the funny, dumpy snowman that is waving at us.
“I dare you to kick its butt.” Karin whispered to me.
“Ok.” I said, and began to walk to the snowman.
“Don’t even think about it.” Melissa said to me, grabbing my arm.
“Why not?” I asked.
“Because…Hey Matt!” Melissa called.
The snowman turned around. “Hey Melissa!” It said. “Hey Karin, hey Melanie, hey Steph!”
Melissa waved and turned back to me. “Because you’re gonna get a big football player to kick your butt after his shift is over.”
I laughed and looked at Karin, who was blushing.
“You’d like to see me get beaten up, don’t you?” I asked.
“Come over to our house at around seven and you could see Bob get beaten up by his much better looking younger brother!” Dave said.
Everyone laughed…well, except for me, of course. I was blushing too hard… and I was thinking of methods to kill Dave with…should I use a knife? Should a strangle him? Yeah, that sounds good. Heh. Heh.
Melissa took Dave’s arm and led him into Mr. Frosty. The rest of us followed.
The place was totally packed, but we were lucky enough to find a large booth for the eight of us to sit into.
“Hey Thomas!” Melissa said when the waiter came to take our order.
“Hey Thomas.” The rest of the girls said in unison. They must be pretty well known here.
“Hey girls, care to introduce me to your friends?” Thomas asked.
“Sure.” Melanie said. “This is Bob, Scott, Dave and Clint.”
“Nice to meet you.” Thomas said.
“Nice hair.” Commented Stephanie.
Thomas’ hair was totally spiked up. The spikes were like…2 and a half inches long.
“Yeah, your hair looks cool.” Clint said.
“Thanks, so do yours.” Thomas replied.
“Well, don’t think Thomas’ hair is all that great.” Melissa said. “At my birthday party, his hair popped a couple of my pretty balloons.”
“It was an accident!” Thomas protested.
“Yeah kid, whatever.” Melissa said with a grin. She looked at the rest of us. “So, what do you guys want?”
“Hot fudge sundae!” said Karin.
“Hot caramel sundae.” Said Melanie.
“Wanna share a banana split?” Melissa asked Dave.
“Sure!” Dave replied.
“A strawberry milkshake please.” Stephanie said, “With a—“
“I know, with a strawberry and a slice of kiwi.” Thomas finished with a laugh.
“Chocolate milkshake please.” I said.
“A Grasshopper.” Said Clint.
“What?” Scott cried.
“Look at the menu, dummy! A Grasshopper is a slice of mint chocolate ice-cream cake!” Clint laughed.
“Oh. Ok, me too.” Scott said to Thomas.
After Thomas gathered up the eight menus, he bopped Melissa and Stephanie’s head with it, and walked away.
“You’re gonna be so dead!” Stephanie and Melissa cried, as they slid out of the booth, and chased the poor waiter into the kitchen.
“Wow, are they allowed to do that?” Scott asked.
“They’re always doing that.” Melanie replied. “They work there sometimes, and they know the manager. He’s Melissa’s uncle.”
“Does that mean that our ice-creams are free?” Clint joked.
“Yeah.” Karin replied. “But we still pay them.”
“Ok.” Clint replied.
"Is there anything going on between Melissa and Thomas?” Dave suddenly asked.
“Or Thomas and Stephanie?” Scott asked.
Melanie and Karin shook their head.
“They’ve known each other since like…grade three. Thomas is like family to them. They’re best friends.”
“Oh.” Dave and Scott smiled. “Ok.” They said, satisfied.
“You like them, don’t you?” Melanie asked.
“NO!” Dave and Scott said quickly.
“You’re lying.” Karin said.
We all hushed up when Melissa and Stephanie returned to the table, a wicked grin on their face.
“What did you do to Thomas this time?” Melanie asked.
“See for yourself.” Stephanie replied.
When Thomas came out of the kitchen, his hair was dripping with pink goo. Strawberry sauce. When I took a closer look, I noticed a strawberry and a kiwi was pierced with one of the spikes on his head and was hanging there.
“You guys are so dead.” Thomas said before he went back to the back of the restaurant to take a quick shower.
Melissa and Stephanie laughed.
“Yeah right, Tommy!” Melissa called after him.
Stephanie laughed.
“You guys really like to bug him, don’t you?” I asked.
“Well, he IS our best friend. What do you expect?” Stephanie said with a laugh.
“He’s like our little brother.” Melissa explained. “It’s like our job to tease him.”
“I see.” Scott said, shaking his head as he laughed.
A moment later, Thomas reappeared, wearing a clean shirt and his hair washed and back to its original spikes.
“Melissa, Stephanie,” Thomas said, “You’re so dead.”
“Ooh! I’m so scared!” Melissa laughed.
“Just bring on the food!” Stephanie added.
Thomas glared at them, then smiled and got the food for us.
“So, what do you like to do, Melanie?” Clint asked.
“Nothing much. Just mellow out and chill with my friends.” Melanie replied.
“Yeah, same here.”
“Tell me about yourself, Stephanie.” Scott said.
“Well, I like Math and Science…” Stephanie began.
*Cough* “Geek” *Cough* Karin said.
I laughed.
“That’s not funny! I can’t help it if I’m good at them!” Stephanie protested.
We all laughed.
“It’s good that you’re good at them.” Scott said, “Cuz I might need some help at it when school starts. Interested in helping me?” Scott grinned.
That guy is so obvious.
“Sure!” Stephanie grinned.
We all finished our food and walked out of “Mr. Frosty.” The snowman came up to us.
“Hey Melissa, hang on, ok? I’ll change and come with you.”
A few minutes later, Thomas and Matt came out of the shop, and began to walk with us.
“So, how do you know Melissa?” I asked Matt.
“She nearly ran me over with her roller blades.” Matt replied.
Melissa and I began to laugh.
“Same here!” I managed to say.
“I guess that’s how Melissa picks up cute guys!” Stephanie said.
“Shh!” Melissa shushed Stephanie. “Don’t give away my secret!” She joked with a laugh.
