Chapter Four

After dinner, the four of us watched TV. In the middle of FRIENDS, Dave jumped up and ran into the den to get the telephone. He took the cordless and ran into his room. What is he doing?
I followed Dave to his room, and sat on the bed while he dialed the number.
“Hello, may I please speak to Melissa?” he asked politely. “Thank you.”
“You’re calling Melissa?” I asked.
Dave nodded at me.
“Hello Melissa? Hi! It’s Dave!” Dave beamed at me. “Are you busy right now? No? That’s good. Oh, Bob wants to know Karin’s phone number.”
“WHAT?!” I cried. “Yeah, he’s right here.” Dave continued. “Hang on.” He handed the phone to me. “Melissa wants to talk to you.”
“You’re a dead man.” I said through clenched teeth. “Hello?” I said sweetly into the phone.
Dave burst into laughter.
“One moment please.” I said, and gently placed the phone down on Dave’s bed.
I turned to Dave, and tackled him onto the floor.
“Oww! Bob! That hurts! Oof! Bob! HELP!”
I could hear footsteps coming up the stairs.
“OMG Bob! What are you doing to Dave! Get off of him!” Scott cried, helping poor Dave up as I got off of him.
“What were you thinking?” Clint asked.
“That was making me sound like a complete fool in front of Melissa!” I said with a smile.
Dave whimpered playfully.
Clint got to the phone before me. “Hey, why is the phone on?” He asked.
“Melissa!” Dave cried.
“Oh, Melissa eh?” Clint grinned. “Hey Melissa! It’s Clint! How are you?” he asked.
“Give me the phone!” I cried, reaching for the phone.
Clint held the phone away from me. “Now, now Bobby, you just have to wait your turn.”
Dave and Scott started to laugh.
I just stood there, in the middle of Dave’s bedroom, with my arms crossed and a pout on my face.
“What is Bob doing? He’s standing in the middle of Dave’s bedroom, with his arms crossed and a pout on his face.” Clint said.
“WHAT?!” I cried.
I can’t believe my siblings are teasing me so much! That’s not really fair, and they don’t usually do that! We usually gang up on Scott!
“Please, just give me the phone.” I said.
“Ok, Bob really wants to talk to you now. Here he is!” Clint said, passing the phone to me, but before I could reach it, Scott came and intercepted it.
“SCOTT!” I yelled. “It’s MY turn to talk to Mel! What are you doing? Give me the phone!”
“Hey Melissa!” Scott said into the phone. “Melissa? Hello?” he asked.
The doorbell rang.
“I’ll get it!” Dave yelled and ran out the door.
“Not if I get it first!” Clint cried, and ran after him.
“Melissa?” Scott asked again. He looked up. “She hung up on ME!” “Sorry.”
Scott and I turned around and saw Melissa standing there at the door, with Dave and Clint smiling behind her.
“Melissa! What are you doing here?” Scott asked.
“Well,” Melissa said, walking into the room towards me, “Bob wanted to talk to me, but you guys were so mean to him that he couldn’t really say anything to me, now could he?” we all shook our heads. “So I decided to walk here instead. Got a problem?” Melissa smiled sweetly.
“None. Not at all.” Clint, Scott and Dave answered.
I smiled.
“Now Dave,” Melissa said, “I am very disappointed in you. You don’t look like the type to annoying the living hell out of your brother. I’d like you to apologize to Bob.” She said with a smile.
“Sorry Bob.” Dave said.
“Sorry.” Said Clint and Scott.
“Ok then. Good boys.” Melissa smiled. “Bob, here’s Karin’s phone number.” She said, handing me a piece of paper.
“What about…?” Clint started.
“Here you go.” Melissa finished, giving Clint and Scott a piece of paper too. I figured they have Melanie and Stephanie’s phone numbers on it. Judging by the looks on Clint and Scott’s faces…yup. Man, she’s so incredible, so sweet… so cute… No, don’t even think that! I don’t like her, ok? I like Karin! Besides, I don’t want to hurt Dave’s feelings… and it’s so obvious that she likes him too! Man, what a chaotic day!
