“Okay,” Amy and Katie mumbled, rubbing the sleep out of their eyes.
“Mom, we have to say goodbye to Bob and Clint before we leave,” Amy told her mother.
“We’ll stop by the hotel before we leave,” Rhonda promised. Amy and Katie got ready and packed, then Amy called Clint and Bob’s hotel room to let them know they’d be there around 10:00. After Amy, Katie and Rhonda were all packed, they said goodbye to Scott, Michelle, Kristy and Brian.
“Do you have Clint’s windbreaker?” Katie asked as they got into the car.
“Yeah. Do you have Bob’s?” Amy replied.
“Yep,” Katie said nodding as she held it up.
“Are we ready?” Rhonda asked. “Yeah,” Amy and Katie answered.
“Okay,” Rhonda said, and she backed the car down the driveway.
“Well, this is it. The last day,” Clint said as he and Bob looked around their hotel room searching for anything that they may have forgotten to pack.
“Yep. The last day to see Amy and Kimberly,” said Bob. Dave, who was sitting on the bed, rolled his eyes. Scott stood up off of the bed, walked over to Bob and Clint, and put an arm around each of them.
“Don’t worry,” he said. “I’m sure you’ll see your girlfriends some other time. I mean, who knows? You could just be walking down the street one day, and BAM! there they are. I know you’ll miss them, but you know, sometimes you have to let these things go. It’s not healthy, and anyways-”
“Scott?” Clint said, interrupting him.
“Hmm?” Scott asked, stopping his spiel.
“Shut-up,” Clint said, shoving his brother’s arm off of his shoulder.
“And they’re not our girlfriends,” Bob added, also shoving Scott’s arm away.
Scott rolled his eyes. “When are you guys going to admit it? It’s obvious you’re going out,” said Scott.
“Scott, for the last time, we’re not going out with them. We’ll never see them again, so what’s the point?” asked Clint.
“When are you going to accept that we’re not going out with them?” Bob asked.
“But you guys-” Scott started.
“Scott, give it a rest,” Dave spoke up.
“Thank you, Dave!” Clint exclaimed.
“Can I say one more thing?” asked Scott. Bob and Clint stared at him, waiting for whatever he had to say. “You guys were with them all the time. Are you sure that you’re not going out?”
“I’d think we’d know if we were going out with them or not. Plus, we’re also with you and Dave all the time. But we’re not going out, are we?” asked Bob.
“But that’s different,” said Scott. “We’re brothers.”
“So? We’re still with you all the time. We’re also around people-girls, I might add-at home all the time too. That doesn’t mean we’re going out with them,” stated Clint. Scott, not knowing what else to say, sat down on the bed. Bob and Clint finished packing, then went down to the lobby to wait for Katie and Amy.
“Don’t be too long,” Rhonda said as she pulled up in front of the hotel.
“We won’t,” Amy said. She and Katie grabbed the windbreakers, then got out of the car. They walked into the lobby to find Bob and Clint waiting for them. They all hugged.
“Well, this is it,” Katie said.
“We’re gonna miss you guys,” Clint said.
“We’ll miss you too,” Amy said.
“Oh, by the way, we forgot to give you back your windbreakers,” Katie said.
“Keep them,” Bob and Clint said in unison.
“We want you to have them to remember us; to remember the summer,” said Bob.
“A souvenir of the past week,” Clint added.
“Okay, thanks,” Amy and Katie said.
Katie looked down at her hand, studying her rings. She took off the one that she wore on her left ring finger that had turquoise triangles on it. “Here,” she said, placing it in Bob’s hand.
“What’s this for?” he asked, turning it over in his hands.
“I want you to have it. For a souvenir,” Katie answered.
“Thanks,” Bob said, putting it on his finger. He gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek as she hugged him back. While all this was going on, Amy took off the sterling silver chain with the plain silver ring dangling from it that she wore around her neck, and handed it to Clint.
“I want you to have this,” she told him.
“Are you sure?” Clint asked.
Amy nodded. “So you can remember me,” she said.
“I’ll always remember you,” Clint said. Amy smiled. Clint opened his arms and hugged her. Amy hugged him back, giving him a kiss on the cheek. He kissed her cheek as well. Outside, Amy’s mom honked the car horn, signaling for them to hurry up.
“Well, maybe we’ll see you down the road somewhere,” Katie said.
“Hopefully,” said Bob. They all hugged one more time. Clint kissed Amy on the cheek again, and Amy kissed him back. Katie kissed Bob on the cheek, and he kissed her cheek as well. Amy and Katie gave each of them a piece of paper with their phone number, home address, and e-mail address on it.
“Write or call us sometime,” Katie said.
“We will,” said Clint.
“You promise?” asked Amy.
“Yep,” said Clint as Bob grabbed a pad of paper and a pen off of a table and scribbled down their addresses and phone number. When he was done, he handed both Katie and Amy a piece of paper. They stuffed them in their pockets.
“Bye,” the four of them said as Amy and Katie headed outside. They got in the car, and Rhonda pulled out of the parking lot.
“That was too much fun,” Katie said as they drove out of Vancouver.
“I know,” said Amy.
“I hope we’ll see them again.”
“Me too.”
“You think we’ll ever see them again?” Clint asked Bob as they rode the elevator down to the lobby with Scott and Dave to leave the hotel.
“I hope so. I don’t want to hear you guys talk about how much you miss them all the time,” said Scott.
“Was I asking you?” asked Clint.
“No,” said Scott.
“Then why did you answer?” asked Clint. Scott held up his hands in surrender. “Do you think we’ll ever see them again, Bob?” Clint asked Bob, putting emphasis on Bob’s name, but looking at Scott.
“I don’t know. It would be cool if we did though. Hopefully,” Bob answered.
“Yeah. Well, maybe they’ll come to another concert or something,” said Clint.
“Yeah,” agreed Bob.
“But how would you know if they were going to come to another concert?” asked Dave.
“We exchanged addresses,” said Bob.
“Oh,” said Dave. The elevator doors opened, and the four brothers walked into the hotel parking lot, ready to load up the bus and head on to the next city.
