“Justin, dammit! Gimme the damn basketball!”
“No way, Lance! You suck!” Justin laughed as he dribbled the ball passed Lance and shot the ball into the basket.
“You know, Justin, you shouldn’t make fun of people who are older than you.” Said Chris.
“Shut up, old man.” Joked Justin.
“Ok then, wise guy.” Said JC, “four versus one.”
“Hey! That’s not fair!” cried Justin.
“Oh it’s fair.” Teased JC, “you versus me, Chris, Lance and Joey. Joey? Hey, where did he go?” he asked, looking around the basketball court.
“There he is!” exclaimed Lance as he spotted Joey sitting next to a blond girl, petting her dog.
“Joey the womanizer.” Murmured Chris.
“Joey!” called Justin, running towards Joey and the girl.
“Yes Justin?” asked Joey.
“You wanna play basketball with us?” Justin asked, pointing to the three other guys.
“Um…no.” said Joey, looking at the girl.
The girl looked at Joey, then at Justin. “That’s ok Joey, you go play.”
“No…”began Joey.
“Really, go play. Come to think of it, can I play too?”
“Sure, what’s your name?” asked Justin.
“I’m Cassie.”
“Hi Cassie, I’m...” began Justin.
“You’re Justin Timberlake from *N SYNC. All five of you are here playing basketball. I’m a big fan.” Interrupted Cassie.
“Are you sure you want to play basketball with Justin?” asked Joey. “He cheats!”
“I’m sure, Joey. I’m pretty sure I could kick his sorry little butt.”
“Are you sure about that?” asked Justin.
“Yeah! I’m sure!” said Cassie.
“Yeah?” asked Justin.
“Yeah!” replied Cassie.
“Let’s go!”
“Right now!”
~*~*~
“Uh-oh.” Said Lance. “I don’t like the looks of this.”
The boys looked at Justin and Cassie. Joey was standing between them, incase they start a catfight. Lance, JC and Chris walked up to them.
“Look Curly, are you gonna let me play?” Cassie demanded, “or are you scared?”
“Whoa,” breathed Chris. “I like that woman.”
Cassie turned and saw the rest of the guys looking at her. She smiled. “Hi! I’m Cassie.” She turned back to Justin. “Let’s go boy, one on one!”
The four guys watched in awe as Justin and Cassie played an intense game of basketball. At the end, Cassie beats Justin, 4-2.
“She’s got the height. Not as tall as Lance, but not bad.” Murmured JC.
“I think she’s 5’10”.” Said Joey, “what do you think, Lance?”
Lance stared at Cassie. She’s gorgeous! She’s a bit shorter than me, (Lance is 5”11”) and she speaks her mind…
“Lance? Lance!”
Lance jumped. Chris’ brown eyes stared at him.
“What?” asked Lance.
“You like Cassie, don’t you?”
“Uh…no.” Lance lied.
Chris grinned. He’s lying…
Lance looked at Chris, “I’m not lying.”
Chris blinked in surprise. “How the hell do you know what I’m thinking?”
“We have a bond, remember?”
“Oh yeah.” Chris sighed. This will be harder than I thought.
“Don’t try setting us up, Chris.” Lance said.
Damn. This guy really knows what I’m thinking. Chris thought.
“Of course I do.”
Chris looked at Lance. “Don’t do that!”
Lance smiled innocently, “do what?”
~*~*~
“Justin! Get your puney little butt over here!” cried Cassie.
JC laughed as Cassie ran across the park and tackled Justin.
“Oww!” cried Justin as he and Cassie fell onto the ground. “How old are you anyway?”
Cassie smiled. “I’m 19.”
“You’re pretty strong, and tall,” began Justin, “for a girl!”
Cassie pinned Justin down onto the ground. “You take that back!”
Lance stared at the couple on the grass. He sighed. If only she would do that to me.
“Hey Cassie! Lance just said that you’re weak!” yelled Chris.
“What?” asked Lance, startled. He looked at Chris.
Chris grinned wickedly. I can read your mind too. He thought to Lance.
“What did you say?” asked Cassie as she approached Lance.
“I didn’t say anything!” cried Lance as he backed away, his hands up in surrender. “Don’t...HELP!” he cried as Cassie tackled him and pushed him down to the ground.
“Say it!” cried Cassie.
“Say what?” asked Lance.
“I didn’t say anything!” Lance cried again.
Cassie smiled down at Lance. “You’re so cute when you’re scared.”
Lance grinned up at her.
“Cassie!” someone called. “Get off of him!”
Cassie and Lance got up. A man with brown hair and blond streaks ran towards them.
“Who’s he?” whispered Lance.
“Cass! What the hell are you doing? You’re cheating on me!” he cried.
“Mike, calm down.” Said Cassie. “We’re not going out anymore.”
Lance gasped. “He’s your boyfriend?”
“WAS my boyfriend.” Said Cassie.
Mike turned to Lance. “You messin’ with my girl?”
“No.” Lance replied. Before he could say anything more, Mike punched him and gave him a black eye.
“Mike! How could you?” cried Carrie as she kneeled down to help Lance up. Mike knocked the wind out of him.
“It’s over!” cried Cassie.
JC looked at his hurt friend, “come on, let’s take you home.”
~*~*~
Lance winced as JC placed the ice pack on Lance’s eye. “Sorry buddy.”
“Oww.” Lance mumbled in pain.
“There’s something good about this.” Spoke up Justin. “We don’t have a photo shoot or anything like that for 2 weeks.”
“That’s true.” Lance managed to Laugh.
Cassie walked into the room and walked up to Lance. JC and Justin left the room. Cassie took a seat in front of Lance, and took the ice-pack from his face.
“I’m very sorry about what Mike did.” Said Cassie.
“It’s ok.” Lance said softly.
Cassie gently touched Lance’s eye with her fingertips. “I’m gonna kick Mike’s a$$ for doing this to you. He’s always so jealous.”
“It’s ok,” Lance said again. “I’m fine.”
“No, Mike’s a jerk and he’s gonna pay.”
“No don’t” Lance began, but Cassie placed her finger against his lips. “Shh…”
Lance nodded. “Tell me what happened between you two.” He said softly.
“Mike and I went out for two years; when I was 17, but after a year, the feelings were gone. I wanted to break up with him, but he threatened to beat me up. A year after that, I couldn’t take it anymore, and I broke up with him.”
And he...” began Lance.
“And he’s been beating up all my boyfriends ever since.” Finished Cassie.
Lance laughed. “I feel sorry for those guys. Boyfriends, guy friends, or both?”
“Both.” Replied Cassie.
“I wonder why Mike didn’t kill Justin and the other guys too?”
“Probably because I was on top of you!” Cassie laughed.
Lance and Cassie continued to talk, and they became very close.
~*~*~
“Man,” Justin whispered with his head against the close door, “They’ve been talking for over an hour!”
“Justin, just leave them alone!” said JC, shaking his head.
“And miss out on the good stuff? I don’t think so!” Justin cried. “Hey! It’s quiet! I can’t hear a thing!”
“They’re probably making out or something.” Chris said as he placed his own head against the door.
~*~*~
Lance and Cassie buried their head in a pillow, trying hard not to laugh. They heard what Justin and Chris said, and they know that Justin and the gang were listening.
“Let’s make kissing noises.” Said Cassie. Lance nodded.
~*~*~
“They’re kissing!” cried Justin.
Well, that got JC and Joey’s attention. They ran and placed their heads against the door too!
~*~*~
Cassie grinned slyly. “Oh Lance!”
“Oh Cassie!” Lance grinned, and they walked towards the door.
“Let’s do it on the floor!” said Cassie loudly.
“Ok.” Said Lance.
~*~*~
Chris screamed. “Oh my god! They’re gonna have SEX!”
Suddenly, the door swung opened and JC, Joey, Chris and Justin fell on top of each other. Lance and Cassie looked at each other and burst out laughing.
“Gotcha!” they cried. Justin, Chris, JC and Joey turned red. They were so embarrassed!
Justin lunged at Lance, “You’re DEAD!”
Lance dodged and Justin fell flat in the floor. Justin pouted and looked out the window. “Oh shoot! It’s pouring!”
“Let’s watch a video then.” Suggested JC.
“Ok.” Said Joey and he picked out the video, put it in the VCR and pressed rewind.
JC and Joey sat in arm chairs, Justin sat on the floor and Chris and Lance sat on the couch. Then Cassie walked into the room. “Hey! Where’s my spot?” she asked.
Chris pointed to the floor with his finger.
“I am NOT sitting on the floor!”
Chris pointed to Lance’s lap.
“Well, ok.” Cassie said as she sat down on his lap. Lance blushed. “What movie?” she asked.
“You’ll see.” Joey said as he pressed play.
“*N SYNC *N the Mix?!” cried JC. “Are you nuts!”
~*~*~
During the middle of the video, someone’s cell phone rang. They all sighed.
“The mystery is, who’s cell phone is that?” asked JC.
The six of them got up and searched for the phone.
“Where is it?” wondered Joey, looking under the couch.
“There better be a prize.” Mumbled Justin.
“I found it!” cried Lance, holding up a cell phone.
“Answer it!” cried Chris. “The ringing is driving me insane!”
“What am I? An answering machine?” Lance asked. He placed the phone by his ear. “Hello, Road Kill Café. You kill ‘em, we grill ‘em. How may I help you?”
The others laughed when Lance posed as if he was about to take an order. “Uh huh. Ok hang on.” Lance passed the phone to Cassie She took it and walked into the kitchen. The boys looked at each other.
~*~*~
“Hello?” asked Cassie.
“Cassandra Phillips?"
“Yes? This is Cassie.”
“This is Andrea from the General Hospital. Your parents and sister were in a terrible accident, and it’s not looking good.”
“Are they ok?” Cassie asked softly.
“I’m afraid not. Your parents are in critical condition and your sister has a broken leg.”
“Oh my god!” Cassie said softly. “Is Cori ok?”
“Corrine is fine. She’s awake.”
“Can I talk to her?”
“Hang on.”
“Hello?” asked a weak voice.
“Cori! Are you ok?”
“I’m fine Cassie, but mom and dad…”Cori trailed off. “I’m afraid that they won’t make it.”
“We’ll stick together, ok?” asked Cassie.
“Ok. I gotta go now. Bye sis, I love you.”
“I love you too. Bye Cori.” Cassie sighed. She looked around the kitchen and started to cry.
“Cassie! Are you ok?”
Cassie turned around and saw Lance at the door. Lance walked up to her and gave her a hug. “What’s the matter?” Lance asked quietly.
Cassie told him what happened. When she finished, she sobbed in his shoulder. Suddenly, the cell phone rang.
Lance picked it up. “Hello?”
“Hello, may I please speak to Cassandra Phillips please?”
Lance looked down at Cassie, who was still sobbing. “She’s busy right now, can I take a message?”
“Please tell her that her parents died.”
Lance gasped. Cassie looked up. She took the phone from Lance. “This is Cassie.”
“I’m sorry Cassie, but your parents died. Your sister is ok, but since she is only 15, you’re her guardian now.”
“Ok.”
“Can you please pick up Corrine tomorrow?”
Cassie looked at Lance. “Can we pick up Cori tomorrow from the hospital?” she asked him.
“Of course.” He replied.
“We’ll come tomorrow.” Said Cassie.
“Ok then.” The caller hung up.
Cassie looked at Lance and began to cry again, Lance stroked her back and walked her to her room.
~*~*~
Lance sat down on a chair as Cassie went to the bathroom. When she came out, she sat on Lance’s lap, and fell asleep.
Lance gently shook Cassie. “Cassie?”
Cassie stirred, but didn’t wake up.
Lance sighed, and after a while, he too fell asleep on the chair with Cassie on his lap.
~*~*~
The next day…
Chris walked into Cassie’s room. His eyes widened when he saw Lance and Cassie asleep on the chair. He ran out of the room and into the other guys’ rooms. A few minutes later, Joey, Chris, Justin and JC gathered at Cassie’s doorway.
About 10 minutes later, Lance’s eyes slowly opened. He looked at the four figures at the doorway and smiled slightly. “We have to go to the hospital today.” He said quietly.
“Why?” asked JC.
Lance quickly told the guys what happened. The boys shook their heads sadly.
Slowly, Cassie began to wake up. She turned her head and winced. “Oww.”
Lance looked down at her. “We’re gonna be sore today.”
~*~*~ At the Hospital…
Cassie walked up to the counter. “Hi, I came to pick up my sister, Corrine Phillips?”
The lady looked up at her. “Of course.” She said, looking at her clip board. “Room 221 please.”
The six of them walked over to Cori’s room.
Cassie and the guys walked into the room, only to see Cori sleeping. Cassie went over and sat beside her bed. The boys stood awkwardly by the wall.
Cassie gently shook Cori. “Cor?”
Cori stirred and her eyes slowly opened. “Cassie! You’re here!” she cried, throwing her arms around her. Cori turned her head and saw the members of *N SYNC standing there. “OMG Cassie! You brought the members of *N SYNC here!”
Justin grinned and walked up to her. “Hey Cori. Ready to go?”
When Cori nodded, Justin picked her up and placed her on a nearby wheelchair. (Remember, Cori broke her leg.)
“Thanks Justin.” Cori smiled up at him.
During the whole ride home, Justin and Cori chatted nonstop.
“What’s Chris like?
“Well, Chris is such a...”
“Enough about me!”
The van filled with laughter.
“Cassie, Cori, do you want to go on tour with us?” asked JC.
“Sure!” The girls cried.
“Well, isn’t that a bit early, JC? The tour is in half a year.” Said Joey.
“I guess.”
When they reached home, Justin carried Cori inside and placed her on the couch. He kneeled down beside her. “Do you need anything?” he asked.
“Let’s go play basketball!” shouted Chris.
“Hey! Have a heart! We have an injured lady here!” yelled Justin.
Chris’ head popped into the room. “Sorry hon.”
“No problem, Sweetheart.” Laughed Justin.
“Go play basketball, Justin. I know how much you like it. I’ll watch.” Said Cori.
“Are you sure?” asked Justin. When Cori nodded, he picked her up and went outside. Justin placed her on the grass in the front lawn, where a brand new basketball net was set up. Their neighbor, Todd joined in on the basketball game.
Lance walked up to Cori and sat down.
“Hey Cori.” He said.
“Hey Lance.”
“How old are you?”
“I’m 15.”
“Cool.”
“Well, why aren’t you playing?” asked Cori.
“Because I suck!” Lance said with a laugh. Cori giggled.
They continued to watch the game. Lance noticed that Todd was checking Cassie out.
Knock it out! Stop looking at her! Lance’s head cried.
Chris, having the strongest mental bond with Lance, received the message right away.
Lance, what’s wrong? Chris thought. He looked at Lance.
(They have some sort of telepathy!!! YEA!!!)
Todd! Was Lance’s response, his eyes red.
Chris turned to look at Todd, who was still checking Cassie out.
“Yo Todd! Keep your mind on the game!” Chris called.
Todd looked at Chris and continued to play basketball.
Thanks. Thought Lance.
Man, Lance has got it bad for her, but he won’t admit it. Chris thought lightly, so Lance could read his message. I’ll have to set them up. Somehow…
~*~*~
Cori looked at the way Lance looked at her sister. He loves her! She realized, shocker. Cori continued to look at Lance. She saw the pain in his eyes when he saw Todd flirting with Cassie.
Cori is a special girl, she’s psychic. Cori has a special kind of gift that she couldn’t explain, but that day, she could read Lance’s mind.
Lance forced his eyes away from Cassie and Todd and turned to Cori.
Cori’s green eyes stared into Lance’s green eyes. “You love Cassie.” She said.
Lance stared at her. “How did you know that?” he said. “You just met me less than 2 hours ago.”
Cori laughed slightly. “Lance, it shows. You have love in your eyes, and I can see hurt, pain and anger when that guy came and talked to her.”
“Does it show that much?” Can you really see that?” asked Lance.
“I can see a lot of things.” Cori said softly.
Cassie tried to smile at Todd. Todd is nice and everything, but all he can blab about, is himself La, La, La, man, this guy is SO boring! She thought.
“Cassie!” cried a voice. Cassie turned around and saw Mike running towards them.
“Oh no!” Cassie heard Lance cry.
“Mike! What are you doing?” Cried Cassie. “Mike!”
Mike walked up to Todd. “You messin’ with Cassie?”
“No.” Todd replied, and with that, he ran away.
Mike laughed. His eyes searched for someone to pick on, and stopped when he saw Lance and Cori. He walked up to Lance. “You!”
“Me what?” asked Lance.
“You!” he said again.
“Me what?” asked Lance.
“You!” Mike said for the third time.
“If you’re just gonna say that, then I ain’t talking to you!” said Lance. He picked up Cori, then walked inside. The others followed, laughing. When Justin walked passed Mike, he looked at him.
“You have a limited vocabulary!” said Justin with a laugh and walked inside, leaving Mike out.
~*~*~
“That was really funny, Lance!” Cassie said with a laugh.
“I guess.” Lance said with a small smile.
“Can I ask a question?” Cori spoke up.
“Yeah. What?” asked Joey.
“Can I hear you guys sing?”
The guys looked at each other and nodded.
“A small part.” Said JC.
“What song?” asked Chris.
“How about God Must Spent a Little More Time on You?” suggested Cori, giving Lance ‘the look’.
Lance got ‘the look’. Cori wants me to sing to Cassie. He realized. But Cassie won’t get the message.
