Note: This story is dedicated to my friends, Louise and Hilary. Hope you like it girls! Remember, this story is fiction! Enjoy!
All I Need Is You
“All I’m saying, is that the soccer team will be undefeated!” Hilary jumped up and down.
“Hil, why are you so interested in soccer anyway?” Louise asked, pulling her hair up into a ponytail.
“Well, because Melissa, our friend, is the only girl playing on the guys team, AND, Dave will be there!”
“Dave, Dave, Dave.” Louise groaned, tying her shoelaces. “That’s all you talk about.”
“Well, you talk about Bob all the time!” Hilary cried.
“That’s because Bob is my boyfriend!”
“Dave is so hot.” Hilary sighed dreamily.
“Get a grip.” Louise grabbed her blue and white pompoms and walked out of the locker room, with Hilary behind her. 10 minutes later, the rest of the cheerleaders joined them at the school soccer field.
~*~*~
“S-, S-C-O, S-C-O-T-T LET’S GO!” cheered the girls when Scott took the ball. He passed the ball to Melissa, who passed it to Clint, who passed it to Bob, who shoots and scored.
“AHH!” the crowd screamed.
“Go Bob!” Louise cheered.
Bob gave his girlfriend a smile and a wave. Louise waved back.
“AWW!” Squealed Hilary. “That is so sweet!”
“Um…It’s just a wave.” Louise said.
“It could mean more.” Hilary said slyly.
“I don’t think so. Ok, ready for the next cheer?” Louise asked her fellow cheerleaders. They nodded. The girls got into position for their next cheer.
~*~*~
“Like I said, Scona High’s soccer team, undefeated-again!”
“Ok Hilary, I get the point.” Louise said when Hilary began to jump up and down again. She then spotted a tall, slim, dark brown hair girl running towards them. “Melissa!”
“MEL!” screamed Hilary, throwing her arms around the tall girl.
“Hilary! Back away!” Melissa cried with a laugh.
“Oh here comes the guys.” Said Louise.
Scott, Clint, Bob and Dave walked out of the locker room and over to the girls.
“Great game today, don’t you think?” Hilary asked.
“Yeah.”
“It was awesome!”
“We rock!” Bob, Scott and Clint said, but Dave said nothing. He blushed and looked away.
Louise noticed it, and she said, “What about you, Dave?”
“It was ok.”
Louise, Melissa and Hilary looked at each other.
“Um, do you all want to come to my place? It’s gonna be ok with my mom.” Said Melissa.
“Sure!”
~*~*~
Scott and Melissa passed the ball back and forth while the others talked and fooled around.
“Hey Melissa, will Julie be home?” Clint asked.
“Yeah, why?”
“Oh, just wondering.”
Melissa and Scott grinned. They both know that Clint has a crush on Melissa’s 14-year-old sister.
When they reached the house, Melissa took her keys out of her pocket, and opened the door. Her older brothers, Ben and Sidney greeted them.
“Hey! Great job! Wow! Thanks for keeping up with the tradition of being undefeated in soccer!”
“Reading from the dictionary again?” Melissa asked Ben.
“He just finished an English exam.” Sidney rolled his eyes.
“Is Julie here?” Clint asked.
“She’s upstairs with her friends.” Ben said.
“Boy crazy friends.” Sidney said, putting an arm around Dave and Bob’s shoulders. “Beware.”
“Thanks for the warning.” Bob laughed. Ben and Sidney walked out of the living room and into the basement.
“You have such cool brothers. I whish that I’m not an only child.” Hilary said.
“No, then you’ll have to live with annoying younger siblings.” Said Scott.
Clint, Bob, and Dave looked at each other, then at Scott, and the three of them jumped on him, causing Scott to fall onto the carpet. Melissa was beside the pile of boys, and then got dragged into the pile too. Melissa squealed. The other girls giggled.
“Ok, get off of her, you don’t want to kill her now, do you?” Louise asked.
Dave, Clint and Bob got off the floor, breathing heavily.
“Come on, let’s get something to drink.”
Louise and Hilary had been in Melissa’s house for so many times, that they know where everything is.
They all left the room, leaving Melissa and Scott alone in the living room. Scott was hovering above her, his hair falling on his face. Their faces were inches apart…
“Scott? Mel? Are you two coming?” Called a voice from the kitchen. It was Clint. They heard footsteps coming from the kitchen, so Scott got up, pulling Melissa up with him, and walked into the kitchen. The rest of them were sitting around the kitchen, drinking pop and eating chips. Melissa grabbed 2 cokes from the fridge and passed one to Scott. They made intense eye contact. The others looked from the guy to the girl. Hilary was about to say something, when 3 girls came down the stairs and into the kitchen.
‘Hey everyone!” said the girl with dark brown hair.
“Hey Julie.” Melissa glanced at Clint, who was staring at her little sister.
“This is Claire and Lila. Lila, Claire, meet Melissa, Hilary, Louise, Bob, Scott, Dave and Clint.” Said Julie.
“You’re right Julie! They ARE cute!” said Lila. “Especially HIM!”
The three young girls looked at each other as if they’re sharing a secret, and giggled. The boys blushed, not knowing who ‘him’ was.
“Oh yeah! I have to call our mom!” Dave got up and went to the phone.
“I’ll be back, Mel, I’m gonna go tell mom where I am now.” Said Louise.
“I’ll come with you.” Said Bob, taking her hand, and walking across the street.
“Me too, I mean, I have to call my mom too.” Said Hilary. “Could I use your phone?”
“Sure. Right where you left it.” Melissa said. Hilary went upstairs to Melissa’s room, where there’s another phone line.
“I’m gonna go talk to Sidney and Ben.” Said Clint and walked downstairs leaving Melissa and Scott alone again.
Scott stroked her cheek and took a step closer…
“Melissa! Can I sleep over?” Yelled Hilary from upstairs.
Scott cursed under his breath. Melissa giggled. “Sure!”
“Ok!” Hilary yelled back.
Scott and Melissa looked at each other. His eyes met hers…
The front door opened. They sprang apart.
“We’re home!” Called Bob.
“Damn.” Scott mumbled under his breath.
Dave walked into the kitchen, followed by Bob, Louise and Hilary.
“Where’s Clint?” Bob asked.
“Right here.” Clint said, walking upstairs from the basement.
“Mel, my mom said that I could sleep over,” said Louise. “Could I?”
“Sure! You know the answer will always be yes.”
“Cool.”
“You can wear my clothes too. Actually, I think I still have some of your clothes in my room. You too, Hilary.”
“Cool. That’s good.” Said Hilary.
Melissa looked at the guys. “Do YOU guys want to sleep over too? You can wear some of Ben and Sidney’s stuff.
“Maybe, I’ll ask mom.” Bob said, and walked out of the kitchen. Louise followed him.
“I better go and clean-up my room.” Melissa said, walking upstairs. She cleared up the clothes off the floor, put them in the laundry, and sat on her bed, thinking of what’s happening between her and Scott.
Just then, the door knocked. Melissa did a final check around her room, making sure there were no underwear left exposed in her room.
“Come in!”
Scott walked into the room. For a minute, they stared at each other. Scott looked at her features. Her long, soft, dark brown hair, deep dark eyes, slender figure, long, elegant neck. ‘She could be a dancer.’ Scott thought. He looked at her strong, arms and strong legs. He turned back to the door.
“Scott?”
Scott looked back at Melissa, who’s a foot away from him.
‘This is it.’ Scott thought. He leaned in slightly…
“Melissa!” Called Dave.
“AHHH!” screamed Scott.
“What’s wrong? What’s going on up there?”
“Nothing!” Melissa called back.
“Damn it!” Scott began to walk out of the room.
“Scott?”
Scott turned around. “What?”
Melissa grabbed Scott by the collar and kissed him. Scott eagerly kissed her back.
~*~*~
Hilary looked at Dave, who was flipping through a ‘Seventeen’ Magazine. She walked over and sat down on the floor beside him. Dave jumped.
“What are you reading?” Hilary asked.
“The fictional story.”
“Do you like it?”
“Yup.”
Hilary wanted to grab his shoulders and shake him, but instead, she sighed.
“Melissa!” Louise called. “Scott!”
Melissa and Scott had been up in Melissa’s room for 15 minutes. The rest of them were wondering what has happened to them. Then, Melissa and Scott casually walked back down the stairs.
“Where were you guys? What did you two do?” asked Bob.
“Just showing Scott an old Elvis article my dad found.” Melissa lied…smiling.
“Ok. Cool.”
“Do you have any food, Melissa?” asked Hilary.
“Didn’t you check?”
“Yeah, but there’s NO food!”
“What?!”
“There is NO food!”
“What the hell?!” cried Melissa. “Julie!”
“What?” Julie yelled down the stairs.
“What happened to all the food?”
“Oh, we ate it!”
“WHAT?!” Melissa threw up her hands. “What the hell are we supposed to do now?”
“Go shopping!” shouted Julie.
“Bitch.” Mumbled Melissa.
“Why don’t we just go to the store?” suggested Louise.
“Like we have a choice.” Melissa mumbled.
“Well then, let’s go!” said Bob, dragging Louise out the door. Clint, Dave and Hilary followed them. Scott and Melissa looked at each other.
“I don’t want the others to know yet.” Said Scott.
“Me neither.” Melissa replied. “This will be like Romeo and Juliet.”
“Of course, Romeo.” Scott replied, holding a smile.
Melissa laughed. “Come on, Juliet.” She said, and walked out of the house.
~*~*~
“So, what should we get?” asked Dave, pushing the cart around Safeway.
“Chips.”
“Pop.”
“Candy.”
“Ice cream.”
“Whoa!” Melissa cried. “I only have ten dollars on me. Go easy!”
They quickly piled on the food, counted all their money combined, and went home.
Scott, Clint, Bob and Dave carried the bags of food back home.
“You know what?” Louise suddenly asked.
“What?” asked the others.
“Scott and Mel should go out.”
Scott and Melissa looked at each other.
“Really, you should! I mean, you two will make an awesome couple.” Said Hilary.
“Ok. Whatever you say.” Scott said.
They walked into the house and went straight into the kitchen to put away all the food. From the sound of it, Claire and Lila were gone. It was only 6:15pm. Melissa called her siblings into the kitchen and they ordered pizza. 3 large pizzas, since there were 10 of them.
“Oh yeah guys, do you need to borrow out clothes? You know, for the sleep over thing?” asked Sidney.
“Yes we do, thanks Sid.” Replied Dave, nibbling on a pizza crust.
“You’re welcome. Why don’t you four find some clothes now?” Ben asked, after putting the pizza boxes away.
“Ok.” Scott, Clint, Dave and Bob followed Ben and Sidney upstairs.
Hilary, Melissa, Louise and Julie went upstairs also, to get clothes for Louise and Hilary, and since Melissa was so tall, they looked through Julie’s closet to find the clothes.
The group of friends met back in the basement.
“Oh yeah, we need blankets too.” Melissa said. She went back upstairs, and Scott followed her. “Why don’t the rest of you pick some CDs or something?”
“Ok.”
As soon as Scott and Melissa made it to the top of the stairs, Scott swung her by the waist and kissed her. Then they walked over to the closet and grabbed some pillows and blankets and carried them downstairs.
‘Larger than life’ by BSB was playing when they reached the basement.
“Let’s dance!” Melissa grabbed Scott’s arm and started to dance to ‘I want it that way’.
Clint looked at Hilary. She looked so sad, so he asked her to dance.
“You like Dave, don’t you?” Clint asked her suddenly.
“Does it show?” Hilary rolled her eyes.
“Sorry, but Dave can be so clueless.”
“No kidding.”
The two of them looked at Dave, who was rearranging and separating the colors in the bowl of M&Ms.
“Oh for god’s sake!” Clint cried. He dragged Hilary to Dave, grabbed Dave’s arm and yanked him up.
“What the hell are you doing?” cried Dave.
“Dance.” Clint said, and shoved Dave into Hilary, then walking over to Julie and sweeping her off her feet.”
“So how are you?” Hilary asked.
“Fine.” Dave said.
“Do you like this song?” asked Hilary.
“Kinda.”
Hilary was beginning to get pissed. “Well, I don’t think you like me.”
Dave was taken aback. “What makes you think that?”
Hilary couldn’t say it anymore, so she started to sing. “Well, I can’t seem to face it, oh that I am here, and you are there, and you don’t really seem to care…”
Dave looked at her. “That’s a nice tune.”
“Thanks.” Hilary said, dropping her arms, and went back to the couch. She walked to the stereo, and turned to 98° ‘The hardest thing’. She sat back down on the couch, buried her head in her hands, and started to cry.
Bob and Louise walked over to where Hilary was crying and sat down beside her.
“Hilary, what’s wrong?” asked Bob.
Hilary told all. Bob angrily walked over to Dave and slapped his head.
“Oww! Bob! What-?”
“You are such a retard!”
“What?” Dave blinked.
“Hilary likes you, can’t you see that?”
“Really?”
Bob threw up his hands. “What the hell is wrong with you?”
“Nothing!” Dave said.
“Then why are you treating Hilary like that, huh? Hilary likes you, and you’re treating her like crap!”
“Oh.”
“Do you like her?”
“Like a friend.”
“That is NOT good.”
“Why are you like this, Dave? You’re the flirt!”
“Not anymore.”
“I don’t get it.” Said Bob.
“Either do I.” Dave said. ‘What should I do?’ he wondered. ‘I want to be with Hilary, but I need…I don’t know what I need.’
“I don’t get it, Louise.” Said Hilary. “I mean, I like Dave, but I don’t know what Dave thinks of me. I mean, he’s so private.”
“What are you gonna do about it?”
“I DON’T KNOW!”
“Ok, this is way too confusing for me.” Louise got up, went to Bob, and started to dance with him.
“All I know,” Hilary whispered to herself, “is that I need Dave, but does he need me? Does he even like me?”
“What’s going on between Dave and Hilary?” Melissa asked Scott.
“Beats me.” Scott replied, holding her tighter.
“Hey, look at Clint and Julie!” Melissa cried.
Clint and Julie were in each other’s arms, and they were kissing!
“OH MY GOD!” Scott cried. “GO CLINT!”
Clint and Julie sprang apart, breathing heavily. They blushed.
“Wow, children, you two sure were going fast!” Bob teased.
“Uh…Yeah. It turns out that we both had a major thing for each other, and we were too shy to admit it.” Julie said.
“Well good job you two!” Scott laughed.
“Well, I know that you and Melissa have a thing too!” Clint said.
“Well, we do!” Melissa replied.
Everyone gasped…everyone except for Dave and Hilary, that is.
~*~*~
Dave tossed and turned on the couch. He couldn’t sleep. Hilary was in his mind…Hilary…Hilary…Hilary. He rolled over and fell to the ground.
A small laugh caught his attention. He forced himself to sit up, and he saw Hilary looking at him with a small smile on his face.
Dave got up and walked towards her. Step by step…
When he reached Hilary, she was already standing up. She led him upstairs into the kitchen and out the back door, both of them in shorts and T-shirts. They both looked up at the sky.
“Look.” Hilary whispered. They both looked up at the sky, and they saw a shooting star.
“Make a wish.” Dave whispered.
After a minute, Hilary asked, “Do you think your dream will come true?”
“I’m gonna make it come true.” Said Dave, as he leaned over and kissed her.
