"Sorry Bob, it's not what you think, I was just putting on his necklace for him, besides there is only one way I would kiss Clint, and that would only be if we were married, and I highly doubt that would happen," I answered.
"So you've never kissed anyone?" asked Clint.
"Nope, I only decided that I wanted my first kiss on my wedding day a few months ago, and before that and now no guy has ever asked me out."
"What, a pretty girl like you, not a single guy asked you out?" Bob was in shock.
"Uh huh," I answered.
"Lets talk about this later we have to meet and greet people before they think we're not coming," said Clint.
Once we reached the room with all the fans with backstage passes, Bob and Clint immediately went to talk to other fans. I walked around a bit and found Sandi and Melissa in a conversation, so I let them talk. I talked to other fans, and they said they liked the music I played which made me feel good.
When I was standing by myself, just looking around, where there weren't to many people, Clint came up behind me, tapped me on the shoulder and whispered in my ear, "so how can I make Clint sexier than Mike."
"Hmmm, I don't know, how about a 20 minute shoulder massage, after the meet and greet," I said.
"Sure, anything else," he asked.
"50 bucks....I'm just kidding, no that's all."
"See ya later babe."
"Yeah," I answered, then mumbled, "my name's Karin."
Soon it was time for everyone to leave, and I said goodbye to Melissa. Then it was just me, Sandi, and the Moffatts left. Sandi came up to me, "so what's up with you and Clint?"
"I don't know. I kind of like him, and from the way he's been acting, I think he likes me too. He's giving me a 20 minute shoulder massage now!" I beamed.
"Hmmm, sounds good, maybe one of his brothers would be kind enough to give me one too."
We all made our way back to the dressing rooms where Clint was already sitting on the couch, he was smiling and motioning for me to come over. I pretended not to see him and continued to talk to Sandi, "Frank told me he'd give us a ride home after."
"Good thing, because I'm not about to call my mom now, it's midnight."
"So who did you all talk......Ahhhh," I screamed as someone picked me up from behind. It was Clint, "Clint you scared me!"
"I know," he answered, "you never came when I called you."
It was quiet for a second, then he began to twirl in circles, "are you taking me dancing or something," I bugged him.
"Do you want to go?" he asked when he stopped spinning.
"Um, not really, I can't dance, I'd make a fool of you."
"Okay, then after your massage, I'll teach you how to dance. Dad told me there were still a lot of people out there, so it'll be a while before we leave."
He set me down in front of the couch and he sat back down on the couch, and began his work.
"Well now that you've tensed my muscles, you can loosen them."
"Just sit back relax and let the master do his work," he said in a sexy voice.
"Not bad Clint, Mike is beginning to get smaller," I complimented him.
He looked up to see Sandi standing by herself, "hey Scott come here and give Sandi a massage, I think she's feeling a little left out."
"Mike just shrunk again," I said.
Scott came out a minute later and asked Sandi if she wanted a massage. She agreed and Scott apologised for not paying any attention to her. Scott and Sandi joined us on the other half of the couch.
"Man, you Moffatt guys certainly know how to act like gentlemen."
"What did you think, we live on the streets."
"Clint, keep that up and Mike will begin to be more sexier. Right now it's about even."
"Sorry."
"Will someone explain what going on. I'm kinda at a loss here?" asked Scott.
"I'm just bugging Clint. You see when he was dressed as Mike, I said, Mike's looking sexy tonight, so when he changed back to Clint I said I thought Mike was still sexier. So Clint came up to me and asked how he could make Clint sexier than Mike, so I told him to give me a massage."
"Oh, so is Scott sexy," he asked.
"Um, well if you didn't do those stupid pelvic thrusts onstage, I'd find you sexy," I answered.
"That's good to know, but most girls tend to like it."
"I guess I'm just different," I answered, "okay Clint, a little more to the left....there perfect."
"Did you know that Karin's never had a boyfriend," said Clint.
"You're kidding right?" asked Scott.
"Nope, Clint's right on the money, not a single guy has asked me out."
"Really? Well if I wasn't on tour all the time, I'd ask you out in a second," answered Scott.
"Thanks, but..." I was cut off.
"You guys wouldn't last to long. Karin told me she doesn't want her first kiss until she's at the alter on her wedding day."
"Are you nuts?" he asked.
"Not really. When I fall in love, I want to fall in love with the guys heart. There's other ways of expressing love then the physical ways. If that's all he wants then he's not looking for love he's just experimenting with what it feels like. If he's willing to wait and we are in love with each other's hearts, there's more to love in the marriage, and that's what I want. That's just what I believe, I mean there's nothing wrong with what you believe, but if you break up with the person, you will most likely be experiencing emotional difficulties, and look at all the time you wasted when you could be doing better things, and then you'd be thinking, ‘why did I kiss her, she didn't deserve my love,'" I explained.
"You know, what I think she is saying is kind of like losing your virginity is not always when you have sex outside of marriage, but what you make it to be, obviously sex is the furthest you take it, but to Karin, losing her virginity is kissing a guy outside of marriage. Just think how awesome your first kiss would be on your wedding day if you waited so long for it. I think it would be very romantic," said Sandi helping me out.
"You know, that kind of makes sense, but for now I'll stick with what I'm doing," he said, "but now I think your 20 minutes are up."
"Already? Well time flies when you're relaxing." I stood up, "wow, I feel....loose. I should hire you as my private masseuse."
"Really, how much would you pay me."
"I guess I couldn't, I don't make any money, but maybe room and board?"
"Sorry, try again," he said standing up, he came up behind me and picked me up again and began spinning again, "so how about we go dancing."
"I don't know, where would we go?" I asked.
"Right here."
"You got any good music?"
"I see your point....the radio," he answered.
"But I can't dance," I complained.
"I'm sure everyone has some natural moves in them somewhere, if now we can all act like idiots."
"I'm good at that." I smiled.
Bob and Dave joined us and we put the radio on, but no one ended up dancing, so I did something about it even though I didn't want to before, "come on Clint, I thought you were going to teach me to dance. Show us your moves, or I'll have to show you mine, and I don't have any, although I did Highland dancing for a few years."
Clint did nothing. I think he was a little shy by his brothers being there, I mean I wouldn't dance in front of my brother. A fast song came on the radio, so I decided to grace them with what I could remember of the sailor dance. By the end of the dance my breath was short.
"And you said you couldn't dance," said Clint.
"I can dance Highland dancing, but the dancing people do at clubs, I have no talent in whatsoever."
"Man, you've got to teach me some of that," said Clint. The rest of the people nodded their heads.
"Okay, I'll teach you the first step, but that's a pretty hard dance everyone learning the Highland starts with the fling."
"Oh well, teach us anyway," said Dave. "I wanna learn."
So I began to teach them. First I had them take off their shoes, and told them you always have to point your toes in dancing. Sandi was easy to teach, but the Moffatt, dancing was not for them. The concept of standing on the balls of one foot while the other foot brushes along the floor until extended to about one foot off the ground while pointed, and then snapped quickly back to the shin right under the kneecap before landing a hop and then the same leg snapped out and in again all in under 3 seconds, was a little to much for them. But of course the dance is difficult and takes about 3 years of Highland dance training to master. After falling over a few times, not getting the right rhythm and me not being a qualified teacher, people got frustrated. Clint beckoned me to come over to him, "so how about we try a different kind of dancing, this is useless to me, I can't do it," he said as he put one arm around me and grabbed my other hand, so I put my arm around him and then we were in the tango position, so he started running one way, and I didn't think he'd do that at such a rapid pace, so I struggled to keep up. I was laughing at us because I didn't expect to be tangoing, "okay switch," he said as we came to a dead end and switched arms and directions and started running the other way.
Once reaching the other side of the room I asked, "you want to try swing dancing?"
"Sure, I don't really know how, but lets see what we can figure out."
So we began to try these two people twirls, then we tried some lifts, but I was a little too awkward to lift swing style, me being a little taller than him, so I was a little bit heavy and awkward for lifting, so we ended up as a laughing heap on the floor. After about 30 seconds a slow song came on the radio. Clint stood up and offered me his hand. I took hold of it. Once up he raised his hand with mine in it above our heads and twirled me around and then stopped by putting his arm around me, "may I have his dance?" he asked.
"I'd love to," I answered playing along. He smiled. "I have to hand it to you Clint, you're 10 times sexier than Mike."
Dave asked Sandi to dance and she agreed, so Scott and Bob decided to make fun of us, so they began dancing in circles around us. Clint not wanting to ruin the dance kicked his leg back when they were behind him and nailed Scott in the shin. I laughed to myself as Scott yelped in pain. "Sorry about those two," said Clint.
Soon the dance was over, we stayed for about 20 minutes longer, then Frank came to get us. We got into the van, and were home in another 20 minutes. "Man I'm going to miss you guys," I said as I gave them all hugs goodbye.
Me and Sandi turned to leave, but were stopped short.
"Karin wait," said Scott, "we got a little something for you for opening for us."
"You didn't have too," I answered, "that was just my service to you....oh, my, laundry," I finished as Dave opened the trunk and pulled out a dark purple Fender Stratacaster, guitar. The exact guitar I wanted. The one they saw me looking at in the mall.
"Here, take it, it's yours," offered Dave.
I was in shock, I couldn't move. Clint came along and sort of pushed me to take it, "go ono, take it," he said.
My eyes filled with tears, "thank you guys so much. No one has ever given me something this nice."
"Hey, you deserve it. It's not everyday someone is surprised the heck out of, and almost forced to play in front of a huge audience when they've never really played in front of anyone before," insisted Bob.
"You guys are the best," I said giving each of them one last meaningful hug. I took the guitar and went to my house while Sandi walked down the street to hers. What a great day it had been. (lol)
~*~*~
Over the next three years I kept in touch with all of them, but mainly Clint. I learned about what they were doing, and who their girlfriends were, and we always did stuff together when they came to town, and likewise when I was visiting Calgary, and they were home.
One day after about three years I got a phone call from Clint, which wasn't unusual.
"Hey, is this Karin?" he asked.
"Yep."
"It's just me Clint."
"Oh hey, what's up?"
"The sky's up! But yeah, we're coming to Edmonton next week."
"Oh yeah! We should all go do something."
"Yeah. I keep on thinking back to the day 3 years ago when we had our discussion about kissing before marriage. I was giving you a shoulder massage."
"Yep, I remember. You should give me another one of those. That was really relaxing."
"Hey sure, but anyways, I have to admit to you that over those years I've had girlfriends and such, and well we did the kissing thing, and I keep thinking about how you said when I break up with someone, I would feel like I wasted my time and all that, and what made me want to kiss her was all lost. We kind of grew tired of each other, even though I barely ever saw her. So I have to say, I was wrong and you were right. That concert day was one of the best days of my life and I learned from it too. So I've decided that with my next girlfriend, I'm not going to kiss her unless we get married."
"Really Clint, I'm so proud of you! I can't believe you would take my advice on that seriously. That was one of the best days of my life too, and my guitar you gave me, I love it so much."
"You deserve it, so anyway, I was wondering if you and me could go on a date on Friday to Reds, and have supper and go bowling there."
