Note: I do not know the Moffatts! This story is dedicated to my new friend Sheena, and my good friend Dani. I love you chicks!
Just Understand
10 years ago, when we were just 14, life was peaceful, calm and nice. We went to a good school, made tons of friends, and were all on the honor roll. Our years were great, having boyfriends, girlfriends, and first kisses. Peace always fills the school hallways, and love revolves around the classmates. The next year though, it was different. There’s this one boy…
(Dani Montgomery)
Dylan McKay was one of those very quiet boys; no one talks to him. He’s pretty normal looking, with dark brown hair and green eyes. He could be good looking, if he didn’t always have a scowl on his face. I don’t know much about him, nothing at all. All I know is that he’s unpopular, no offense to him or anything. He’s always made fun of, always the last one picked in gym. That’s what my friends Dave, Scott, Clint and Bob told me anyway, since they’re in his gym class. In my opinion, I think that Dylan is pretty cool, and my friends and I always tried to talk to him at lunch, but he was never there. We tried to talk to him during class, but he’s just give us that look. My other friends, Melissa Bass, Sheena Dale and Monica Adams, tried to talk to Dylan a lot too, but they couldn’t get through to him either. Why is that? Why is he being so difficult?
(Scott Moffatt)
Another gym class and we’re going to play soccer. My brothers, Clint, Dave, Bob and I were all on the same team. As usual, Dylan McKay was picked last. He’s on our team. That’s great! I think that Dylan is a great soccer player…
“Oh great!” Jordan Kennedy said loudly. “The REJECT is on MY team!”
I shot Jordan a warning look. “Cut it out!” I said.
In reply, Jordan tackled Dylan to the ground, punching and kicking him. Everyone in the class cheered, and some people, like Trevor Johnson, Marshall Kraft, and Adam Manera threw a couple punches at him too. What bastards! My brothers and I looked at each other. This is not good. Clint and I grabbed Jordan’s arms. Jordan was wild, flinging his arms and punching us as well. Dave and Bob helped Dylan up, taking in all the punches that their classmates threw at them for helping Dylan. I watched as Anthony Taylor threw a hard punch at Dave’s eye. ASS! I desperately wanted to help Dave, but I couldn’t. Jordan was already too strong for Clint, and me and if I let go, Clint could totally get hurt. Then, Brandon Lee punched Dylan hard in the stomach. Blood began to pour out of Dylan’s mouth. Oh my god. No one made a move to get a teacher. Dave let go of Dylan’s arm, and ran out of the gym to get a teacher. Bob got a punch in the arm and I could already see the bruise forming on his forearm. Tyler Kent was one of the strongest guys in the whole school, and getting punched by him wasn’t exactly a good thing. Why did we go to this school? Angel Grove High is usually a peaceful place, until Dylan came to our school!
(Melissa Bass)
Sheena and I were walking in the hallway when I saw Dave ran by, with one hand covering his eye. Being on the track team, I grabbed Sheena’s arm and ran to Dave.
“Dave!” I yelled.
Dave stopped, and hung his head.
“Dave?” I asked softly.
Dave looked up, I gasped. Dave had a black eye!
“Dave! What happened?” I asked. Poor guy.
“Dylan was in a fight with Jordan Kennedy. Bob and I pulled Dylan away, and then the other guys started to punch us. Someone got me hard in the eye. Dylan was totally injured. Blood was pouring out of his mouth.” Dave winced.
“Gross.” Sheena said.
“Yeah.”
“Well, I guess we have to go to English now.” Said Sheena. “Come on Dave.”
“Yeah, let’s go.” I carried Dave’s books, took his arm, and led him into the classroom. Clint, Scott, Bob, Monica, Dani, Sheena, Dave Dylan and I were all in the same class. I took a look at Bob, Clint, Scott and Dylan. They look so bad! Bob’s arm was bruised, and his hair was a tangled mess, and Dani was running a brush through it. Clint’s face was still flushed from what happened, other than that, he looked ok. Scott looked ok too, just the fact that he had a scratch on his cheek, and his hair too, was a tangled mess. Dylan looked the worst. He had a black eye, a swollen and stained lip, bruises all over his arms, legs and face.
I started to walk over to Dylan when a hand grabbed me roughly by the arm.
“What are you doing?” asked Kathryn Flemming.
“I’m going to talk to Dylan.”
“Why?” asked another girl, Kimberly Kaiss.
I yanked my hand out of Kathryn’s grasp, and made my way to Dylan. Two more girls blocked my way. They’re Natasha Verdon and Chelsi Dane.
“Why are you walking to Dylan? You want to catch his disease or something?” Natasha asked nastily.
“She probably likes him,” said Chelsi. “And then, when she dies, I can have Dave, all to myself!”
The girls laughed. I rolled my eyes, and finally made it to Dylan.
(Sheena Dale)
I was with my boyfriend Scott when I saw Melissa walk towards Dylan.
“Excuse me, Scott.” I said, and walk towards Mel and Dylan. Kaleigh Jones and Erica Kellyn grabbed my arm. I sighed. Not again!
“Why do you want to talk to Dylan anyway? He is such a retard!” said Erica.
“I rather talk to a retard than talk to you two.” I said, and walked towards Dylan and Melissa.
“BITCH!” said Kaleigh.
I turned around, gave her the finger, and walked to Melissa and Dylan.
“Dylan, what happened?” I heard Melissa ask.
“Nothing.” Dylan answered.
“Really.” I said to him, “Look what happened to you!”
“Leave me alone!”
“Dylan, we’re just trying to help!” Melissa cried.
Dylan didn’t answer.
Sadly, Melissa walked back to her desk beside Dave. I looked at Dylan. “You know what? Melissa and I care!”
I walked back to my desk and sat down. The teacher, Mr. James began to teach.
I then saw Dylan pass a note to Melissa. I watched as Melissa gave him a puzzled glance, and looked back down at the note.
(Dave Moffatt)
I peeked over Melissa’s shoulder and saw the note. ‘Be careful’ it says. What is that supposed to mean? Is Melissa gonna get hurt? Then I received a note from Dylan.
‘Dave, you, your brothers, Melissa, Sheena, Dani and Monica have to be careful’
What does he mean by that? It was the very last class of the day, I guess Dylan was tired, like me, or maybe had head damage or something. I don’t know. What the heck is going on?
The hour passed very slowly. When the bell rang, Melissa Spees and Kyla Lent walked over to me.
“Dave, why do you like that Melissa bitch anyway? I mean, she is such a goody-goody.”
“Melissa is not a bitch, like you two.” I said, and walked out of the classroom.
(Monica Adams)
I don’t get it. I don’t get why everyone was bugging Dylan so much. So what if he’s quiet? So what if he’s a little different from the rest of us? He’s still a living, breathing person; someone who has feelings. Why are they torturing him so much?
“Monica?”
I looked up and saw my boyfriend, Clint. The hallway was filled with kids and they were pushing and shoving me. I grabbed for Clint’s hand and we quickly walked to our lockers.
Dave ran over to us, with Melissa, Sheena, Dani, Bob and Scott behind him.
“Guys! Dylan gave me a warning! Something is gonna happen!”
Then, the fire bell rang. Some people screamed. We all ran out of the school, and that’s when I heard it. A gunshot! I screamed.
(Clint Moffatt)
Oh my god! Was that a gunshot I heard? I hope not. Then I saw him. Dylan was holding a gun, and he shot someone.
Melissa screamed. “Jordan got hit!”
I turned my head and there he was, lying in a heap on the floor. 15 more shots rang out. I couldn’t believe my ears!
“Oh my god!” everyone screamed.
Everything was chaotic, and people were running all over the place. Bob and I slowly walked over to Dylan.
“Dylan, come on buddy, drop the gun.” Bob said soothingly.
Dylan’s hands shook.
Melissa, Monica, Sheena, Dani, Dave and Scott walked up behind me.
“Dylan, please.” Melissa said, tears streaming down her face.
“Please.” Scott said.
“Come on Buddy.” Dave said.
“Dylan.” Monica whispered.
Dylan dropped the gun. We all sighed of relief. At that second, no one said anything. Then, Melissa walked forward, and gave Dylan a hug. Dylan looked surprised at first, then he relaxed, and hugged her back. We all gave him a hug too. What a relief! The problem is that… well, he shot 16 people.
“We’ll be there for you.” Sheena said to him.
(Bob Moffatt)
On that day, 16 people died. Jordan Kennedy, Trevor Johnson, Marshall Kraft, Adam Manera, Anthony Taylor, Brandon Lee, Tyler Kent, Kimberly Kaiss, Chelsi Dane, Natasha Verdon, Melissa Spees, Kyla Lent, Kaleigh Jones, Erica Kellyn, Kathryn Flemming and a girl named Julie Nam.
I couldn’t believe that Dylan was the one who did that. The shooting was the worst thing that could happen at our school. I noticed that Dylan only killed the people who insulted him…or us. Wow, he liked us.
After the shooting, I realized that we should all treat people equally. No one is better than anybody is. That’s what happened after the shooting. Everyone became extra close to each other since the incident. I think that the school life is better now, even with the loss of our 16 students. I’m just saying that... if only they treated Dylan well…
(All)
Well, we found out that a couple weeks after the shooting, Dylan died. He ended up hanging himself, because of what he has done. Before that, he wrote letters to us, telling us what is happening in his life. It turned out that his parents hated him, and don’t even want him anymore. Well, he told us that he wants to end his life. We told him no, but then, he couldn’t take the torture anymore. He died.
The End
Note: This story is kind of crappy, I know, but…well, I’ll think of a reason later! LOL! See ya!
