Zen and the Momentarian

The momentarian must free herself from the bonds of past and future to truly take in the totality of the moment. If the urge takes him to chase a squirrel, then that is what he does. When the texture of the grass distracts, the squirrel no longer exists for the momentarian. In that moment is only grass.

The momentarian may notice (a rare occurrence) some discomfort in those around them. These others may attribute the source of their discomfort to the momentarian's aledged "lack of attention". The momentarian must allow these individuals to experience this confusion. To explain would be to lose the moment. It is healthy for others not to understand, and this confusion should be considered an affirmation by the momentarian. When she comes to another person in a rage over a lost sock only to become enthralled over a re-run of "Eek! the Cat" on television, the momentarian is providing that person with a healthy dose of hard earned confusion, as well as with a true picture of the ephemeral nature of emotion.

One aspect most confusing to others about the momentarian resides in the notion of the term moment. Others will be sent reeling when the momentarian sits for hours delicately constructing an AM radio from spare parts found in a kitchen junk drawer, then can't sit for a second to help someone decide what to have for dinner. In the former example, those hours are the moment. In the latter example the momentarian is a victim of momentacide, and must protect himself from the outside control vector lest the all important moment be stolen, and replaced with an artificial moment. The momentarian must always be aware of such sabotage and develop strategies to counter such attacks.

While the fit of rage is the most popular form of moment counter sabotage, it is only one, and used too often, is a case of moment recapture. This represents a form of remembering, recalling past events to aid in the present. As such they should be avoided. It is best to counter momenticide by freeing yourself from the moment, and suspend your attention till something else enters your awareness. At this point fixating on the next moment until the control vector gives up their attempt at sabotage and walks away in disgust. Remember confusion is healthy for others, and for the momentarian should be considered an affirmation.

Oh look a bird. Hey I wonder what's happening with Star Wars Episode 2? 1
