Downspell originated in Sitka, Alaska in the fall of 1999. In the fall of 2000 they relocated to San Diego because it was too ****ing cold in Alaska and they needed a tan. Not to mention the Ak. metal scene is just short of non-existent. Downspell started playing live in San Diego almost exactly a year ago, their first show in California being on March 31,2001. Since then they played in Mexico and all over SD with bands like Deeds OF Flesh, Prototype, Diesel Machine, Prong and yours truly Fortress. We played a Gig with these guys at a little club called the Playhouse and they kicked ass! Seen them again, a little more recently at the New Years Evil Bash at the Brick By Brick.They were excellent. Downspell strives to keep their metal somewhere in between death metal and the newer metal genre that’s emerged in the last 5 years. Thus, allowing them to play a variety of shows and still fit in.

Their future dates include shows in L.A. and Phoenix. They will also be recording their 2nd E.P within the year which promises to be more brutal than the last. All five songs: Stuck / Silentscope / Afterbirth / Maggotshit / Twitch are on www.Downspell.com in (mp3) format so feel free to download.
