"Please let them like me," I prayed as I stood in front of the Tampa Department of Musicians. I tightly clutched my drum sticks
in one hand and my slip of paper that said I was supposed to be here for the
auditions in the other. All i had ever really wanted in my entire life was to
have my music heard, to have people dance to it, to just...be a part of this
wolrd.
"Well...it's now or never," I said with a sigh and walked into the
large 5 story building. Looking around I spotted the front desk so I decided
to go and ask for directions. "Excuse me...can you please tell me where I can
find Mr.Delums office?"
A small red-headed lady looked up from her desk. "Ah, yes. I take it your that girl here for the job interview?"
I smiled politley and said "Yes, I'm Trista Herst. Here for the interview."
She smiled back and said "Ah, yes, Trista...Mr. Delums office is right down that hall and the
second door to the left."
"Thank you," I said and walked towards his office. I had never been so nervous in my whole life. I wanted this job more than
anything...I mean getting a chance to play my music in a band as popular as the
Backstreet Band is like the biggest thing to ever happen to a dreamer like
me. I took one last deep breath and slowly opened the door.

" Ah, yes, Trista please come on in," Mr. Delums said
friendily.
"Thanks," I said with a smile and walked into his office and sat
down.
"Now I hear that you're pretty good on the drums, correct?"
" Well...," I said shyly. "I have been playing since I could hold the drum sticks
so....yeah I guess you could say I'm pretty good."
"Wonderful!" he said with excitment. "Now all I need you to do is to fill out these forms and then you
will go out to the back room and you will be asked to play a couple of songs," he
said as he handed me a pen and the forms.
The forms were just basicly health information and stuff like where I would be in they needed to get a hold of
me in case of an emergency.
"Thank you!" I said with a smile and walked out of
his office. I walked down the the end of the hall and found the so-called
"back room". So i slowly opend the door and walked in.

"No, no, no,...you have the feel the vibrations flow through you...you have to
feel the music pumping in your heart," a familiar voice said. I couldn't quite
place who it was but I knew I had heard him before.
"Thank you very much...we'll be sure to call you if you are chosen...and thank you again,"
the voice said.
"Man fellas we hafta find someone who can play with feeling or I might as well just do it myself ."
"Hey don't worry man. We'll find someone," another voice said.
I walked farther into the room so I could see who it was. All I could see was that he was about 6 foot tall, wearing a white
wifebeater, and black basketball shorts with a white backwards hat.
"Umm....excuse me," I said. "I'm here for the interview."
As soon as he turned around I knew who he was...it was the one-and-only Nick Carter! Now I mean
don't get me wrong. I suppose he could be cute, but the whole 'heart-throbe' look isn't for me. He turned
and looked at me.
"Hey I'm Nick...this is Brian and AJ, and this is our guitarist
Billy Chaipen," he said with a charming smile.
"Hey! I'm Trista Herst," I said and returned his smile.
"Alright, alright, enough flirting and small talk. Let's
get this interview on the way so I can go home," AJ said impatiently.
"Alright, so how long have you been playing the drums?," Brian asked.
"Since I was 9, so about....10 years."
"Great," Brian said as he marked something on a clip board.
"Alright. We are gonna have you and Billy play a little duet so we
can get an idea how you would sound with the rest of the band," Nick said.
"Alright. Kool."I took off my long leather jacket, set it on a chair, and
sat down at the drum set.
"Ok," I said as I brushed a piece of loose hair out of my eyes and twirled my drum sticks in my hand like an old cowboy does with
his guns....hoping to impress them a little.
"Ok...how bout 'Back to Your Heart'?" Nick said.
"Aight, on my count...," I lightly tapped my sticks together, "one, two, three, four..." and so we began to play "BTYH". After
playing "QPGWMH" "IWITW" and "DWYB", I wanted to play something a little more
my style.
"You guys don't mind if I play something more my style do you? You
know, just so you can see how well I play."
"Naw, go ahead," Nick said.
So I played SR-71's 'Right Now' and sung along with it the best I could.
"Alright, we will call you if you made it," AJ said, not looking up from the clipboard
in his hand.
"Ok. Thanks," I said with a smile and walked out of the room.
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
"I say we go with the first guy."
"Naw, I mean come on AJ. He didn't know any of the songs and he said he was a very slow learner. You know
we don't have that kind of time....how 'bout that one chick who came in here
second?"
"Rok, her style was all slopy...hey here's a thought...that one
girl...Trista...?"
"Come on, Nick, your just saying that cuz you like her."
"Man, AJ, every girl I side with you think I have a crush on her....although she was
pretty cute," Nick said with a laugh.
"Alright, alright. We gotta go meet up with the other..."
Brian was interupted by his cell phone ringing.
"Hello...yeah, we are done Kev.....yeah, we are on our way.....ok....bye."
