Beck Hansen was born in Los Angeles, California in 1970.  He was a quiet boy in school and he got pretty good grades.  As he grew, so did his passion for music.  By the time he was fifteen, he had already wrote several songs and performed for family and friends.  When he was eighteen, he played in bars and at parties.  Soon he was discovered by a producer who hooked him up with a record deal with L.A.'s Bong Load Records.  He soon entered the studio and wrote his first studio recorded song ever, "Loser".  The song was sent to local and college radio stations.  Then, something happened.

The song caught on and almost promoted itself without Beck even knowing.  Soon, the radio stations around the country were playing Loser.  As the song caught on, it became a song for the ages.

Soon after, he returned to the studio to record his first major album, "Mellow Gold".  He also hooked up with K and Flipside records and recorded the albums "Stereopathetic Soulmanure" and "One Foot In The Grave".  Meanwhile, Mellow Gold did better than Beck thought it would.  It sold over 500,000 copies.

After 2 years of touring, he returned back to the studio to record 1996's "Odelay".  This album was a collection of songs he wrote while on the road.  Odelay became a total success, selling 500,000 copies in 6 months.  It also earned Beck several Grammy nominations and a Grammy award, along with 2 MTV Video Music awards.

His latest album, "Mutations" was released on Nov. 3rd of 1998.  It has a very acoustic feel along with his classic sound.  Beck just recently finished recording a brand-new album, Midnite Vultures, which was released on November 23rd, 1999.  It has a totally new sound.  Something like a funky fresh sexy thing going on.  It's very R&B, yet very Beck all in the same breath.  The album features a guest, Beth Orton singing backup in "Beautiful Way".  Also the Dust Brothers did up a little mixin' for the man.  It can be found at your local record store, or ordered online  @
