Hello and welcome to my Nirvana Theories Page. As a collector, I've had quite a number of questions, ideas and info that I've come across.
Parts of this are spawned off of ideas from Rob Holmes' page, Fecal Matter Quest. If I say your name in this document, I'm just saying it to make a point. Everyone should kept their ears open and listen to people. Even if they are some newbie, the greatest ideas come about when people work together. If you don't like me posting your name, just e-mail me and I'll gladly take it down. I don't mean any harm.

NEW!(12/10/01): Just finished reading the "Heavier than Heaven" book. It started out as a good book, but the closer I got to the end of it, I realized that the book is a very slanted book. The author uses quotes to his advantage. Just about every quote the author uses is about Kurt wanting to kill himsle or how depressed he is. I'm sure that's not all that Kurt wrote about in his journal. Cross paints a picture of an extremely depressed, suicidal individual. That's what the whole book is about.
Anyone else you had access to Kurt's journals would have show the reader tons of stories, pictures, quotes, beginnings of songs. There is not one copy of an written page from Kurt's journal in the book.
My theory is this: Courtney allowed Cross to only see certain things when he started this book. I'm sure she also had finally say what went into the book too.
NEW!(9/08/98):In the song "Gallons of Rubbing Will Flow Through the Strip," Kurt says, "Somebody else already used the word aurora borealis." Who already used it? It was used in "Aurora Borealis" by the Meat Puppets, sort of. That is song's title. The song has no words though. Any thoughts?
NEW!(9/08/98): The infamous can of "Prairie Belt Sausages" from the Sliver video has reappeared. I was in a record store and saw it on the cover of a 45. Guess who put it out? Sub Pop. It was SP 140, "Smells like Smoked Sausages." Could it be Kurt's can? Could the title be a play on "Smells Like Teen Spirit?" Ideas?!?
NEW!(9/08/98): Determined it was faked. ~~Also, As everyone knows the copy of "Fecal Matter," circulating, is not Fecal Matter but yet another early home demo of Kurt's.~~
In the movie, "Kurt and Courtney" they were suppose to play a clip of it, but due to Courtney and her legal army, they could not show it. But they did air a few seconds on Dale Crover warming up the drum kit. The recording sounded pretty clear. Also Kurt's Aunt mentions a song title of a song that Kurt didn't record, "Seaside Suicide." She said the lyrics were pretty emotional and vivid. It gave her the impression that Kurt had attempted suicide before 1986. How's that for info?
I (Enrique) had e-mailed Mtv about something and they answered my question. My question was about 1/16/93 Sao Paulo and 2/27/94 Ljubjana, Slovenia. Here was their response:
"Regarding your questions, MTV Brasil actually did NOT tape the Nirvana shows in Brazil -- only Brazilian TV did, which we've heard is sold in bootleg form. The Slovenia concert was actually shot by MTV Europe we think...Hope that helps!"
So the 2/27/94 does exists! Now, how to get it....
What's the deal with the song "Maiden Circle?" Everyone has seemed to have heard that this song exists, but who has it? I've read that it sounds like a mixture of "Verse Chorus Verse and Misery loves Company"?
What songs were rumored to be on the Lalapalooza EP? Cookie?
I was listening to a couple of shows of mine and heard something rather interesting. On 10/8/89 (before Stain), 11/19/89 (before Mr. Moustache) and 2/09/90(before Blew), There is a little jam played. But in these three cases, they all are the same jam. Over a period of five months... Could it have been a song that they were working on? We might never know.
In "Come As You Are" (CAYA), Nirvana bible to all, It says on p.173, during the Butch Vig recording of May-June of 1991, it says that the band played covers of "Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath and Aerosmith" to blow off the long day.
My guess: The band jammed and it was recorded. (Vig left the tape running 24-7 in the studio not to miss anything that Kurt did.) Also, Vig said people were constantly asking him for copies of the recording sessions while they were still recording. Vig, the band, Courtney, and some others probably have copies. I think that they covered "Ballard of Dwight Fry" (Cause the Melvins cover this song) and/or "Eighteen" by Cooper, "Paranoid" (Krist is always playing this bassline live) by Black Sabbath, and "Sweet Emotion" (They did this in Rio in 1993) by Aerosmith. They probably recorded covers of Flipper songs (like "Way of The World" and "Sex Bomb") and probably some other groups maybe like the Wipers or Led Zeppelin.
Also in CAYA on p.178, It says that "3 or 4 songs unreleased songs and unfinished songs were recorded." (Recorded during The Butch Vig sessions) My guess: This songs were "Penny Royal Tea," "Rape Me," "Old Age," and probably a song or two that never saw the light... who ever has a copy should just give it up! Don't let Kurt's memory fade away!
Updated(9/03/98): Kurt and Courtney did a short demo tape in Rio de Janiero in early 1993. It featured "Drunk In Rio", aka "It's Closing Soon", plus some other stuff. A tape of this was given to John Peel by Courtney....but what other songs are on this tape? I heard that Patty Schemel of Hole plays drums on the tape, but someone else told me that it is Kurt. Maybe the Nirvana songs "Fountain Soda" and "Old Age" are on here, and that's why Courtney stole them for Unplugged....we may never know.

What we do know is this:

There is a new import (not a bootleg) Hole cd out now called, "My Body, The Hand Grenade." In it, it says that Miss World was recorded in Rio 1/93
My guess is that Kurt and Courtney made a demo with mostly songs from Hole's upcoming album, "Live Through This All" The tape is probably 7 songs from "Live Through This All" and maybe a couple of unreleased duet songs (like Drunk In Rio).
I kinda remember reading something in a guitar magazine a while back, (When I find the article, I'll post it.) around when Pat Smear joined the band. In the article, it said that Pat showed the band how to play "Black Bird," by the Beatles. I have a feeling that it was recorded... Now who the hell would would have a copy...Courtney, the band... Any ideas?
Updated(9/03/98): I picked up a Shonen Knife album called "Birds and other b- sides" On it, the last four tracks were played live. In the liner notes, it says the songs were recorded on 12/04/91 Manchester, England at the Manchester Academy and 12/05/91 London, England at the Kilburn National by Craig Montgomery (Nirvana's soundman. Shonen Knife was opening for Nirvana on these dates.) It says that the songs were recorded on DAT, live at the shows.
My guess? A DAT version exists of Nirvana's 12/04/91 and 12/05/91 performance also. NEW! A partical audience copy has been found with a "NEW" song with Dave on vocals and Kurt on drums.
Why are everyone's lyrics wrong? Everyone's lyrics (with few excepts) are wrong. Why? Because everyone copies lyrics and no one bothered to question if the lyrics were wrong. There only two pages with the most up to date lyrics. This one and C Blaney's page.
I got exclusive info (ok, the info is not that cool) on the Old Age tape. It's from 4/91. I have the complete setlist:

So is Old Age a Hole or A Nirvana song? On BMI, it says Courtney is the only writer. Yet in the Unplugged book, it says the song was written by Kurt and Courtney.
I think Kurt wrote it and decided not to use it and gave it to Courtney. Courtney then wrote new lyrics for the song and claimed it as her own.
Solved (9/3/98): The Song is "White Lace and Strange" by Thunder and Roses. In my opinion, the unknown song is not "Adorn" as supposely said by Krist Noveselic. First off, how does everyone know if it was Krist on ICQ? (We now know it was not not Krist)
But, anyway this does not fit it to the scheme of things.The song is one of the most solid songs on the Kaos show, While half of the songs have incomplete lyrics. The lyrics are different from most of the songs Kurt wrote at that time. Kurt usually wrote sexual things in his songs. (Ex: Spank Thru - masterbating, Floyd- dying in Aunt Bee's muff and etc.)
My guess? The song is a cover song. (No it's not the "Lemon Song" by Led Zep.) It sounds different from the rest of Kurt's songs written at the time.
Solved (9/3/98): The first four songs have been found on video. 2/22/94 vs. 2/27/94 -- This debate has been long running. Most of you have seen the footage of "In Bloom" that MTV had on the tribute to Nirvana. Well, many claim that is 2/22/94 and not 2/27/94 as MTV put on it. Well, fellow member Andrew Kruczek has parts of 2/22/94 on video, and compared it to the footage MTV has of 2/27/94 on the tribute. From what he saw, both Krist and Pat had on different clothing in both clips, so therefore unless they changed between songs, both are entirely different and that 2/27/94 could indeed exist on video.
